Lady Bears Fall To Beltway Rival Howard, 71-57

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 24, 2026)--Morgan State's Kailyn Nash totaled a game-high 15 points and Mihjae Hayes added 11, but it wasn't enough, as the Lady Bears fell to host Howard, 71-57 on Saturday morning at Burr Gymnasium.

The win was the seventh straight for the Bison over the Lady Bears. Morgan State fell to 3-19, 2-4 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), while Howard picked up its third straight win and improved to 15-7, 5-1 MEAC.

The Bison were paced by Zoe Stewart, who led five Howard players in double figures with a game-high 15 points and recorded a game-high four steals. Zennia Thomas (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Nile Miller (11 points, 10 rebounds) each collected double-doubles, while Emma NuQuay came off the bench to add 12 points.

The game featured 10 lead changes and had nine ties. Morgan State built a 15-10 lead after the first quarter and held a slim 31-29 lead into the locker room at the break. Howard, which remained unbeaten at home at 6-0, regrouped after the intermission and outscored the Lady Bears a combined 42-26 in the second half.

The host Bison finished the game shooting 39% (24-of-61) from the floor and were 4-of-16 (25%) from the three-point arc. Howard also shot 90.5% from the free throw line, missing just two attempts after connecting on 19-of-21 from the line.

Morgan shot 36% (20-of-55) from the floor, including 6-of-17 (35%) from beyond the arc and went 11-of-16 (69%) from the line.

The hosts forced Morgan State into 16 turnovers, nine of which came by way of steals. Howard would turn those turnovers into 22 points. The Lady Bears recorded three steals and forced the Bison into eight turnovers, which turned into seven points.

The Lady Bears will be off until next Saturday, Jan. 31 when they visit crosstown rival Coppin State to close out the first half of the MEAC slate. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. at PEC Arena in Baltimore, Md. and will air live on ESPN+. The Eagles dropped a 69-58 decision on Saturday morning at defending champion Norfolk State.

Before hosting Morgan State, Coppin State (4-18, 2-4 MEAC) will face Washington Adventist on Tuesday, Jan. 27 in a non-conference game at PEC Arena.
