Morgan State Wrestling Falls to Columbia in Friday Night Big Apple Dual

NEW YORK, N.Y. (Jan. 16, 2026) — The Morgan State wrestling team opened its 2026 dual schedule on the road Friday night, squaring off against Columbia University at Schiller Court inside Levien Gymnasium. The Bears fell to the Lions, 44–4, dropping Morgan State to 0–11 on the season, while Columbia improved to 4–3 overall.

Columbia built an early 12–0 advantage before the opening whistle due to forfeits by Morgan State (0–11). The Lions went on to win nine of the 10 bouts on the evening.

Morgan State's lone bright spot of the evening came at 149 pounds, where Eugene Harney turned in a strong performance. The sophomore controlled his bout against Columbia's Richard Fedalen from start to finish, scoring his first points with an escape late in the first period (under 40 seconds remaining). Harney carried a 2–1 lead into the second, where he added another escape to extend the margin to 4–1. He broke the match open with a hook takedown, pushing the score to 7–1.

In the third period, Harney continued to press, building a 10–2 advantage before securing a late takedown to widen the gap to 13–2. He added a final point to cap off a 14–3 major decision, delivering a big win and helping secure the first dual victory of the new year.
