Morgan State Participates in EXPLOR Program

BALTIMORE, Md. (June 12, 2025) - Morgan State Athletics has partnered with the University of Baltimore Law for a unique summer experience in primarily legal organizations, EXPLOR, a Program that has been around for 25 years. Bear Athletics has granted a trio of students the opportunity to learn and gather experience through the compliance office.

"We are extremely excited to have three students participating in the EXPLOR Program at Morgan State University," said Deputy Athletic Director/SWA Erlease Wagner. "This unique opportunity not only allows them to apply what they've learned in the classroom to real-world settings but also supports their growth as professionals and future leaders. We are happy to be a part of their journey."

Running from May to August, the program offers students valuable real-world experience through internships lasting 8 to 10 weeks. During this time, participants work 16 to 20 hours per week and benefit from ongoing mentorship and professional guidance.

"Being a student-athlete at Morgan was one of the best experiences of my life, so when the opportunity arose to work in compliance at my alma mater, I immediately reached out," said Jourdan Wallace, a former Bear women's tennis player. "As a student-athlete considering law school, being able to frequently converse with Ms. Wagner, who has a law degree, showed me an area where sports and law intersect, so I decided that the legal side of sports will be a major part of my career. Concentrating on family law, mediation, estate planning, and sports law will allow me to carve out a niche for myself in an actively developing legal field where my love of sports can help athletes focus on career longevity and security in their lives after sports."

The EXPLOR Program is designed to immerse law students in the legal profession through hands-on, practical experiences. It provides students with opportunities to apply the knowledge gained during their first year of law school and observe rules and regulations in action. The program also supports students' professional development by helping them build valuable connections in the field. Participating employers share their expertise, assign meaningful work, and offer mentorship on professional standards and real-world applications of legal principles.

Anais Williams, a former track & field student-athlete at the University of Pittsburgh, is one of the three students participating in the EXPLOR Program on the MSU Campus. "I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to intern with the athletic compliance office at Morgan State University," said Williams. "As a former student-athlete, I'm excited to see how compliance works from the inside out. This experience will be invaluable as I aspire to pursue a career in sports law. I look forward to contributing to this program!"

"I chose Morgan State University as my legal internship for the summer of 2025," said Shannon Campbell. A graduate of Thomas Jefferson University, Campbell shared "I chose this program as I continue my law school education with a continued interest and passion for sports law. This legal internship allows me to explore the inner workings of the law and its relation to sports at the collegiate level."
