Women’s Tennis Falls To NCCU In MEAC Semifinal, 4-2

CARY, N.C. (April 25, 2025)--The 2025 tennis season came to an end on Friday morning, as the sixth-seeded Lady Bears lost their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) semifinal match to No. 2 North Carolina Central, 4-2 at Cary Tennis Park. The match aired live on ESPN+.
 
With the win, NCCU (13-8) advanced to its first MEAC finals in program history and avenged last season's quarterfinal loss to Morgan State.
 
For Morgan State(6-18), it was the Lady Bears' second consecutive semifinal appearance in the MEAC championship.
 
The Eagles started off the match claiming the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead, following wins at No. 1 doubles by the score of 6-3 and No. 2 doubles with a 6-2 victory.
 
Morgan State (6-18) then dropped three of the five singles matches played, to earn the 4-2 match win.
 
The Lady Bears' victories came at No. 3 singles where Julia Jeffrey defeated Mariana Zottoli, 6-3, 6-3. Marta Serra Carles picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles over Valentina De Aquino Monsanto.
