TOWSON, Md. (April 2, 2025)--The Mogan State softball team traveled to nearby Towson on Wednesday afternoon for a midweek non-conference matchup against the crosstown rival Tigers. In the end, Towson would hold off the Lady Bears, defeating Morgan State 4-3 at Tiger Softball Stadium.

For the third consecutive year the Lady Bears entered their contest against Towson riding a six-game winning streak only to have it once against come to an end at the hands of the Tigers. It was the third win for the Tigers over Morgan State in the last four meetings, with all three wins coming by a run each.

Towson (16-18) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when Kristin Toland hit a two-run homer to right centerfield in the bottom of the first inning.

Morgan State (11-19) got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning, scoring three runs to take the lead.
Olivia Garner singled to center field, bringing in two runs to tie the game at 2-2.
Victoria Fletcher's sacrifice fly hit to rightfield scored Garner to give the Lady Bears the 3-2 advantage.

The Tigers would reclaim the lead for good, scoring two runs in the fourth inning. Elizabeth Yoskowitz singled up the middle to score Madyson Peters and Alyssa Myint, giving Towson the 4-3 lead, which proved to be the difference.

Toland and Yoskowitz each went 1-for-2 with 2 RBI to lead the Tigers. Pitcher Olivia Trombley went the distance throwing one strikeout in seven innings to receive the win and improve to 5-3.

Morgan State was led by
Amber Rivas who finished 2-for-4 with a run. Morgan Alvarez was 1-for-3 with a run and
Denver Obermeyer and Garner each had a hit.
Serena Rodriguez (6-9) tossed four innings and recorded two strikeouts. Fletcher pitched in relief and struck out two batters in two innings of work. Â

Next Up: Morgan State returns to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play this weekend when it travels to Durham, N.C. to face North Carolina Central (April 5-6). The three-game series gets underway on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and concludes on Sunday with a single game at 12 p.m.
