Softball Drops Mount St. Mary’s Tournament Opener To Le Moyne, 5-1

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 8, 2025)--The Morgan State softball team opened up the Mount St. Mary's Tournament with a 5-1 non-conference loss to Le Moyne on day two of the tournament on Saturday morning at Our Lady of the Meadows Field. It was the first meeting in program history between the two teams.
 
The Dolphins (5-13), winners of three straight, collected 10 hits in the game. Morgan State (2-13), which has dropped its last five straight, finished with seven hits, but committed three errors.
 
Victoria Fletcher went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Bears. Fletcher also pitched 2.2 innings in relief and struck out three batters.
 
Elaine Kassap finished 2-for-3 with a game-high 2 RBI and a run scored to pace the Dolphins. Alyssa Dybacz and Arianna Exarchakis each went 2-for-4. Isabella Kwashek went the distance for the Dolphins and improved to 2-4 on the season in the circle. Kwashek surrendered one run on seven hits and a walk, while striking out a game-high nine batters in 7.0 innings of work.
 
How It Happened
Le Moyne struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Nesci singled to left field to score Rinaldi for a 1-0 lead.
 
The Dolphins increased their lead to 2-0 in the second inning, when Kassap homered to right center field.
 
● Morgan State scored its lone run of the game in the top of the fourth inning when Olivia Pagano doubled to right center to score Nia Lewis and cut the deficit to 2-1.
 
● Le Moyne came right back scoring two runs in the bottom half of the fourth when Kassap singled up the middle to score Maddie Martin and Dybacz singled through the right side to score Bacon, extending the Dolphins' lead to 4-1.
 
● The Dolphins ended their scoring in the fifth inning when Sydney Nesci scored on a throwing error to give Le Moyne the 5-1 victory.
 
Next Up: Morgan State will wrap up the three-day tournament with two games on Sunday, March 9. The Lady Bears will first take on Le Moyne in a rematch at 1 p.m., before closing out with a contest against host Mount St. Mary's at 3 p.m.
