BALTIMORE, Md. (March 19, 2025)--The Morgan State softball team returned home on Wednesday to host Colgate in a non-conference doubleheader at Lois T. Murray Field. The two teams would split the series. Morgan State won the opener, 1-0, before the Raiders defeated the Lady Bears in Game 2, 5-4.

Game 1
Morgan State (5-18) scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the first inning when
Gianna Ettore singled to left field to score
Morgan Harrell-Alvarez for the 1-0 lead. That advantage would stand for the rest of the game.

Serena Rodriguez (3-8) picked up the win for the Lady Bears. She pitched a complete game and finished with a game-high four strikeouts, while surrendering three hits and a walk.

Amber Rivas and
Tonya Marks both went 2-for-3 at the plate for Morgan.
Â
Maya Servedio (5-10) was charged with the loss after allowing a run on eight hits. Servedio would collect three strikeouts in six innings of work.

Game 2
Morgan State struck first in the second inning when
Alison Keener reached base on a fielding error by the shortstop, allowing
Olivia Pagano to score, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Colgate (9-17) answered in the top of the third when Quinn Livesay hit a two-run homer to right center to put the Raiders ahead 2-1.

The guests weren't done, as they managed to load the bases and score two more runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-1.

Morgan State regrouped and put together three-runs in the sixth inning to even the score. Tanya Marks scored the first run on a bunt single by
Olivia Garner. Keener then doubled to left center to score Garner, cutting the deficit to 4-3.
Amber Rivas would single to score Nia Green for the tying run at 4-4.

The Raiders would score the game winner in the seventh inning when Alexa Acker doubled to right field to score Livesay for the 5-4 victory.

Livesay went 3-for-3 with two runs, a walk and 2 RBI to pace the Raiders. Lily Haluska was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Alexa Acker also recorded two hits, a RBI.

Rivas and Ettore both went 2-for-4 in the game. Marks also went 2-for-4 and had a run scored.
Olivia Pagano was 1-for-4 with a run, while Keener and
Olivia Garner both had a hit and an RBI.

Acker (2-5) earned the win for Colgate. Mikala Ham tossed a game-high six strikeouts for the Raiders in the win. Morgan State
Victoria Fletcher tossed a team-high four strikeouts.

Next up: Morgan State will return to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play this weekend when it travels to Princess Anne, Md. to face Maryland Eastern Shore (March 22-23). The two will play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. and will conclude the series with a single game on Sunday at noon.
