Softball Ends Losing Skid; Defeats Mount St. Mary’s, 4-3

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 9, 2025)--The Lady Bears concluded the Mount St. Mary's Tournament on Sunday afternoon with a win over the host Mountaineers, following a 4-3 victory at Our Lady of the Meadows Field. The victory also put to rest Morgan State's six-game losing skid.
 
Morgan State improved to 3-14, while Mount St. Mary's dropped to 5-11 on the season.
 
Rylee Hyde led the Lady Bears, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Victoria Fletcher was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI. Fletcher earned the win to improve to 2-6 on the season. She would go the distance, surrendering three runs on nine hits and a walk, while striking out six batters.
 
How It Happened
● Morgan State and Mount St. Mary's went five scoreless innings, before the Lady Bears put up three runs in the top of the sixth. Fletcher singled up the middle to score Amber Rivas and Hyde for a 2-0 lead. Alison Keener reached on a fielder's choice on a sacrifice bunt to score Jayla Campos, giving the guests a 3-0 cushion.
 
● The Mount answered in the bottom of the sixth when Tyra Christian doubled to center field to score Laurenne Gallagher. A single to right field by Murphy scored Christian to cut Morgan's lead to 3-2.
 
● Morgan State added to its slim lead, when Cassie White grounded out to second to score Olivia Garner and put the Lady Bears ahead, 4-2 in the seventh.
 
● Mount St. Mary's scored a run in the bottom of the seventh when Koerner grounded out to second to score Kelsie Bandelow for what would be the last run of the game.
 
Next Up: Morgan State returns home to host George Washington on Wednesday, March 12 at 2 p.m. at Lois T. Murray Field.
