The short story: Maryland Eastern Shore's Mahogany Lester scored 17 points to help visiting UMES beat Morgan State, 77-59 on Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House in Baltimore, Md. Morgan is now on a three-game losing streak against UMES with two of the losses coming at home.
OPENING TIP
● Mahogany Lester a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., led UMES to a win with a team-high 17 points, shooting 5-of-7 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the arch.
● Brianna Barnes added 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals, while Ashanti Lynch had 14 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals for the Hawks.

Gabrielle Johnson led Morgan with 15 points, 4 assists and 1 rebound and
Naya Ojukwu recorded her third double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds and finished with a game-high 3 blocks.
● The Lady Bears' bench had a combined 15 points, while the Hawks' bench had 22 points.
THE DIFFERENCE
● The Hawks shot 44.8% from the field and 30.0% from the three-point line, while Morgan shot 33.9% from the field and 22.7% from three-point range.
● The Hawks went 22-of-33 from the free throw line, while Morgan struggled to make them only connecting on 16-of-30.
● The Hawks dominated the paint, scoring 46 points, while Morgan only had 24.
● UMES also forced 24 turnovers which it converted into 28 points.
● To start the game both teams had a slow start only scoring 7 combined points in the first 5 minutes. After a timeout by the Lady Bears, both teams picked up the pace with a notable 3-point shot from the logo by Morgan's Gabby Johnson, which would tie the game at the end of the quarter.
● Morgan took the lead to close out the first half with 31-30 advantage after outscoring the Hawks.
● UMES changed the entire pace of the game coming out the gate and going on an 8-0 run, while also getting in the bonus in the first 5 minutes. The Hawks continued to extend their run while Morgan struggled to score. UMES finished the third quarter with an impressive 31 points.
● The Hawks started off the quarter with a quick steal that converted into 2 points that got them going on a 4-0 run. Zamara Haynes later hit a free throw to complete a three-point play and then got called for a technical foul for taunting.
Gabrielle Johnson hit both technical free throws, which triggered an 8-0 run by the Lady Bears, including a deep three-pointer by Jala Bannerman, as Morgan pulled within 68-57 with 4:05 left to play. However, Morgan didn't have enough momentum to catch up.

● Morgan State's
Nia Green and Maya Wood, as well as the Hawks' Mahogany Lester and Dakieran Turner all fouled out in the 4th quarter.
● Zamara Haynes got a technical foul for taunting.
