Morgan State Wrestling Drops Road Match at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Dec. 20, 2025) – Morgan State endured a challenging afternoon on the road, falling to Navy, 47–3, on Saturday inside Alumni Hall.

The Bears struggled to gain momentum against their fellow Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) opponent, as the Midshipmen asserted control throughout the dual. With the win, Navy improved to 2–3 overall and 1–0 in EIWA competition, while Morgan State dropped to 0–7 on the season.

Sophomore Eugene Harney (149 lbs.) continued to prove why he is one of Morgan State's top performers, securing the Bears' lone victory of the day. Ranked No. 31 nationally by InterMat, Harney rallied for a hard-earned win after trailing James Latonia 3–1 following the first period.

Harney shifted the momentum in the second period with a reversal to tie the match at 3–3, then sealed the victory with a double-leg takedown late in the third. With the win, Harney improved to 13–1 overall and 6–1 in duals this season.

"Eugene Harney continues to impress with his great performance," said Morgan State head coach Kenny Monday. "He improves his record to 13 wins with only one loss. Navy is a conference opponent, so that keeps him ranked No. 1 in the EIWA."

Coach Monday acknowledged the physical nature of the matchup and provided updates on his wrestlers following the dual.

"Javaan [Yarbrough] hit his head with the other wrestler, but he's okay. We're monitoring him to see if he can go tomorrow," Monday said. "Yannis [Charles] wrestled a solid match and just came up short at the end in what was a very winnable bout. He tweaked his ankle in the third period, and we're hoping he can go tomorrow."

Despite being shorthanded, Monday emphasized his team's resilience and continued progress.

"It was a tough match today, and we're still missing three starters from the lineup," Monday added. "We're fighting to get the squad healthy, but we'll keep building and keep believing. This group is making progress, and that's what matters."
