DAVIDSON, N.C. (Dec. 19, 2025)--The Lady Bears closed out their three-game road swing down south with a visit to Davidson on Friday morning. The Lady Bears would fall to the host Wildcats, 78-34 on Education Day at Belk Arena.
Morgan State dropped to 1-13 and suffered its third loss to Davidson in as many meetings, while the Wildcats improved to 9-4.
Jael Butler led the Lady Bears with 11 points, while
Maya Woodson fell shy of a double-double with nine points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Ja'la Bannerman added nine points and had a game-high three steals.
Davidson was paced by Candice Lienafa, who finished with a game-high 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 4-for-4 from three-point range. Edina Strausz shot 4-of-5 from the floor for 12 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
The Wildcats outrebounded Morgan State 39-27 and held a 50-3 advantage over the Lady Bears in bench points.
Butler scored the game's first points and the hosts respond to score eight straight in the midst of a 20-5 spurt to take a 20-7 lead with 40 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Butler closed out the quarter knocking down two free throws, as the Lady Bears trailed 20-9 after a quarter of play.
The Lady Bears would again be held to nine points in the second quarter, as Davidson outscored the guests, 19-9 in the second period to take a 39-18 advantage at the intermission.
Davidson continued it stranglehold in the third quarter, as it limited the Lady Bears to just eight points. The Wildcats would put together their best shooting display of the game for a quarter-best 25 points to extend their lead to 64-26. Davidson ended up shooting 83.3% (10-of-12) from the floor and 3-of-4 (75%) from three-point range. The hosts, who shot 38.9% (7-of-18) for the game from the free throw line, continued to struggle in the third, shooting 2-of-6 for 33.3%.
The Lady Bears finished the game shooting 29.5% (13-of-44) from the field, including 2-of-9 (22.2%) from beyond the arc. Morgan State would connect on 50% of its free throws, going 6-of-12 for the game.
Morgan State returns to the State of Maryland to continue the second half of its six-game road swing away from Hill Field House, when it visits Loyola Maryland on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Reitz Arena.
