Morgan State Wrestler Marwan Nazeer Receives BWA Scholarship Honor

BALTIMORE, Md. (Dec. 17, 2025) – The Black Wrestlers Association (BWA) announced the recipients of its second annual scholarship awards, with Morgan State University wrestling freshman Marwan Nazeer named among this year's honorees.

The BWA Wrestling Scholarship recognizes current collegiate wrestlers who demonstrate excellence in both academics and athletics while exemplifying leadership and character.

Morgan State head wrestling coach Kenny Monday praised Nazeer's achievement and the broader significance of the recognition.

"Morgan State Wrestling is proud to recognize our international student-athlete, Marwan Nazeer, from Sweden, on being selected as this year's recipient of the Black Wrestlers Association annual scholarship," Monday said.

"As an international student, Marwan brings a unique global perspective to our program, and this recognition underscores the values of leadership, perseverance, and integrity that we emphasize here at Morgan State University."

"We are grateful to BWA for their continued investment in the academic and personal development of student-athletes."

A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Nazeer shared his thoughts on the meaning of the honor and what it symbolizes for both himself and others with similar backgrounds.

"Coming from a background where few people looked like me on the mat or in leadership roles, I've often felt the weight of being both visible and invisible," Nazeer said. "This scholarship is more than financial support—it's validation. It remin
ds me that my presence in this sport matters and that there is a community invested in creating space for people like me to thrive."

Since arriving at Morgan State, Nazeer, an Information Systems major, has embraced the dual responsibility of competing at a high level while excelling in the classroom—embodying the values central to the Black Wrestlers Association's mission.

"I aspire to combine my discipline from wrestling with technical expertise to lead impactful projects and eventually start my own business," Nazeer said.

Nazeer's selection places him among a select group of student-athletes recognized nationally for their impact and promise within collegiate wrestling.

The Black Wrestlers Association continues to support and uplift wrestlers of color by providing resources, mentorship, and scholarship opportunities aimed at fostering equity and inclusion across the sport.
