Stetson Holds Off Morgan’s Comeback Bid, 70-56

Johnson scores 20 points in home opener.

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 9, 2025)--The Morgan State Lady Bears opened their home schedule on Sunday afternoon at Hill Field House, facing off against the Stetson Hatters. Despite a strong push late in the game, the Lady Bears fell short, dropping the contest 70–56.

Stetson (2-1) controlled much of the tempo early, taking advantage of second chance points and consistent perimeter shooting to build its lead. Cameron Thomas dominated the floor leading the Hatters to victory with a game-high 23 points and eight rebounds. Aleah Sorrentino had a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Despite trailing most of the game the Lady Bears (0-2) refused to back down. Midway through the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears sparked a comeback run, cutting the deficit to just two points. Free throws made by Selina Gutierrez at the 5:27 mark made the score 57–55, giving Morgan a surge of energy.

Gabrielle Johnson led the Lady Bears with a 20-point performance, showcasing her scoring versatility and leadership on both ends of the court. Off the bench, Gutierrez provided a spark with 11 points, adding key contributions that kept Morgan alive during the second half.

Head Coach Nadine Domond, in her first season with the Lady Bears, emphasized that the team's focus remains on steady growth and building chemistry.

"We just gotta continue, we're under construction," Domond said. "We're going to take the first two games and continue to learn from them."

Domond acknowledged that while there were positive stretches of play, consistency will be key moving forward.

"Going into the next game, we're looking to improve our transition defense and boxing out, getting rebounds, and closing out games down the line," she added.

With a new roster and under new leadership the Lady Bears look to get their first dub of the season this Wednesday against Washington Adventist University at Hill Field House. Tip-off is at 11 a.m. and will be Education Day.
