CHARLOTTSVILLE, Va. (Nov. 4, 2025)--Kymora Johnson scored a game-high 24 points and Paris Clark added 18, as host Virginia defeated Morgan State, 86-36 on Tuesday evening in the season opener for both teams at John Paul Jones Arena.

Morgan State (0-1) was paced by
Gabrielle Johnson, who shot 3-of-4 from three-point range to finish with nine points.
Kailyn Nash added eight points and had a team-high eight rebounds.
Mihjae Hayes added six points, three assists and collected three of the team's eight steals.

The Cavaliers (1-0) shot 32-of-70 (45.7%) from the floor and connected on 7-of-29 (24.1%) from three-point range. Virginia held a 58-27 rebounding advantage over the Lady Bears and totaled 18 assists and 12 steals. The Cavaliers also recorded 12 blocks with Tabitha Amanze leading the way with a game-high five blocks.

The Lady Bears shot 12-of-56 (21.4%) for the game, including 4-of-18 (22.2%) from beyond the arc. Morgan State also shot 80% (8-of-10) from the charity line, while the hosts hit 15-of-17 (88.2%).

Virginia opened the game, scoring the first seven points in part of a 13-2 spurt before the Lady Bears got two free throws from Hayes with 4:29 to play in the opening quarter. Trailing 19-4, Nash hit a jumper with 2:15 remaining to end a scoring drought of 5:43 without a field goal. Morgan State trailed 53-17 at the intermission and was down 73-30 after three quarters of play

Morgan State returns home for its home opener on Sunday, Nov. 9 when it plays host to Stetson. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. at Hill Field House. The Hatters dropped an 82-73 decision on the road at Alabama in their season opener on Monday. Prior to facing Morgan State, Stetson will host Warner on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+. Â Â
