BALTIMORE, Md. (April 7, 2024)--The Morgan State softball team closed out its series against defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament champion North Carolina Central on Sunday with a 4-3 victory at Lois T. Murray Field.

The Lady Bears improved to 21-14, 10-2 in the MEAC, while the Eagles fell to 10-29, 6-6 MEAC. The win helped Morgan State claim the series, as the Lady Bears won two of the three games. Morgan State also picked up its fifth consecutive conference series win dating back to last season.

Victoria Fletcher got the win and improved to 2-3 on the season. Fletcher would surrender no runs on seven hits and struck out six batters in 4.1 innings of work. Jaden Davis (6-14) was charged with the loss for the Eagles and recorded a game-high five strikeouts.

Morgan State recorded just three hits in the game, while the guests finished with 13 hits.

Fletcher put the hosts on the board when she flied out to left field, scoring
Amber Rivas and giving the Lady Bears a 1-0 lead in the first. Â

The score remained 1-0 until the fifth inning when the Lady Bears appeared to break it open with three more runs to take a 4-0 lead.

NCCU would respond in the sixth inning with three runs all coming on RBI singles, to bring the Eagles within 4-3.

Next Up: Morgan State will travel to Norfolk, Va. to take on the Norfolk State Spartans in a three-game series (April 13-14). The series gets underway on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon with a televised game on ESPNU. It will be the Lady Bears' first time playing on ESPNU as part of the MEACs softball package for the network. Game 2 will begin at 3 p.m. The series will conclude on Sunday with a single game starting at noon.
