Morgan Falls Short At Rival Howard, 5-2

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 20, 2024)--The Lady Bears tennis team concluded the regular season with a 5-2 road loss to Howard in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) finale on Saturday at the Banneker Recreation Center.

Morgan State (5-14, 3-3 MEAC) got off to a strong start when Hannah Smith and Lauryn Hall earned a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles. However, the Bison (10-9, 4-2 MEAC) would claim the final two doubles matches to win the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.

After dropping the first singles contest, Morgan State bounced back to even the score at 2-2, following back-to-back wins by Smith and Averiana Mitchell.

Smith defeated Jordan Grayson 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Mitchell defeated Selah Stibbins also in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot.

Unfortunately, it was all Howard from there, as the Bison won the final three singles contests to wrap up the 5-2 victory.

Morgan State will now get ready for the upcoming MEAC tennis championship (April 25-27) in Cary, N.C., hosted by North Carolina Central.
