ORLANDO, Fla. (March 14, 2024) — The Morgan State men's tennis team displayed their dominance as they swept West Chester 7-0 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
Morgan improves to 3-7 on the season and 3-2 at neutral sites with its victory over West Chester. The Rams dropped to 1-5.
Morgan jumped out to a 1-0 lead by taking the team doubles point. The talented duo of Mikeal Carpenter and Makkijha Brown teamed up for the third time this season to defeat West Chester's Felix Weber and Brady Burns (6-2) on court 1. On court 2, Niles Rachal and Rhajzon Rankin went on to clinch the doubles point in their 6-1 win over Lucas Henke and Andrew Poprik to mark the duo's second victory of the year.
Rhajzon Rankins gave Morgan a 2-0 lead over the Rams with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Cesar DeJesus Morale. With the win, Rhajzon improved his season singles record to 3-4.
Bears' tennis team continued their dominant streak with yet another impressive win from Mikeal Carpenter. The senior ultimately defeated Lucas Henke on court 1, 6-0, 6-3, to boost the team's overall lead to 3-0. Carpenter's singles record for the season now stands at 5-4.
Niles Rachal clinched Morgan's win on court 2. The junior beat Andres Urrutia with a final score of 6-0, 6-1, for his third consecutive singles victory. This was his third consecutive singles win and he continues to be a key player for the Bears, leading the team with a 4-1 record in singles play.
Bertin Karenzi added on to Morgan's total with a straight sets win over Sam Robertson (6-1, 6-0) on court 6. Makkijha Brown earned his fifth win of the spring on court 3 against Felix Weber (6-1, 6-1) to give the Bears its sixth point of the afternoon. Kondwani Patterson then capped off Morgan's sweep with a straight set win over Andrew Poprik (6-1, 6-2).
