BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 29, 2024)--Morgan State will look wrap up the 2023-24 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) road slate this Thursday, Feb. 29, when it travels to Dover, Del. to take on the Delaware State Hornets in a makeup game at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall. The game was originally scheduled for Feb. 19 and was postponed. Thursday's game is crucial if Morgan State hopes to move up in the league standings for seeding purposes for the upcoming MEAC Tournament (March 13-16). The Lady Bears are currently in seventh-place in the MEAC standings, while Delaware State sits in sixth. The Lady Bears are 2-11 this season on the road and have dropped their last two road contests. Morgan State's last road victory was a 65-59 defeat of South Carolina State (2/3) in Orangeburg, S.C.

BEAR CLAWS:Â Morgan State (7-18, 2-8 MEAC), which is on a four-game losing skid, is coming off a 79-49 loss at home to league leader and defending MEAC champion Norfolk State (2/26). The Lady Bears were paced by freshman
Amari Smith, who scored 11 points, grabbed four rebounds, had an assist, a block and a steal in the loss to the Spartans on Monday.
Joelle Johnson and
Jael Butler each added nine points, while
Emily Jones and
Gabrielle Johnson scored eight points apiece.
HORNET STINGERS:Â Delaware State (7-16, 3-7 MEAC) ended a five-game losing skid on Monday with a 75-64 overtime victory on the road at North Carolina Central. The Hornets would hold NCCU to just three points in the overtime session, as they outscored the hosts, 14-3. Denijsha Wilson scored a game-high 21 points, recorded a game-high six steals and had four assists in the win. Ja'Naiah Perkins-Jackson came off the bench to score 16 points and Savannah Brooks added 11 points. McKenzie Stewart hauled in a game-high 18 rebounds to go with a game-high six steals, six points and a block before fouling out.

MSU VS. DSU SERIES NOTES:Â Delaware State leads the all-time series, 46-42, after defeating the Lady Bears earlier this season, 73-71 in overtime in Baltimore (1/8). It was the Hornets' second consecutive victory over Morgan State, both coming at Hill Field House. Prior to last season's loss, Morgan State had won seven straight over Delaware State. The Lady Bears have won four in a row in Dover, Del. and haven't lost at Memorial Hall since a 69-61 defeat on Jan. 4, 2020.
NEXT UP:Â Morgan State will host South Carolina State on Saturday, March 2 at 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House for Community/Band/Cheer Day. It will be the first of three consecutive home contests to close out the 2023-24 regular season. Â

DAVIS RETURNS TO THE HORNETS NEST:Â Morgan State head coach Ed Davis Jr., will make his eighth trip back to Memorial Hall as an opposing head coach on Thursday, Feb. 29 when the Lady Bears travel to Dover, Del. to take on Delaware State. Morgan State is 14-7 against DSU since Davis joined the Morgan State staff as an assistant coach in 2012-13 and has won eight of the last 11 meetings in Dover. Davis, who once patrolled the sideline for 12 seasons as the head coach of Delaware State, is the winningest coach in Hornets' program history with 178 victories. While at Delaware State, Davis guided the Hornets to the MEAC Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth in 2007.

2024 MEAC TOURNAMENT:Â The 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men's and women's basketball tournament is scheduled for March 13-16, 2024 at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va. The annual MEAC Basketball Tournament moved to Norfolk in 2013 after spending the previous four years in Winston-Salem, N.C. from 2009 through 2012.
