ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Feb. 24, 2024) — The Morgan State University men's tennis team (1-2) fell 6-1 to Navy Saturday afternoon at the Those Family Tennis Center in Annapolis, Maryland.
Navy (11-2) opened the match by claiming the doubles point with a pair of wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions.
The Midshipmen were able to quickly claim enough singles victories to take the team decision.
Despite a valiant effort, senior Rhajzon Rankins unfortunately came up short in his singles match against Navy's Steve Nguyen. The two players battled it out on the court, with Rankins pushing the match to three sets. However, in the end, it was Nguyen who emerged as the victor, winning the final set 7-5, 6-7 (1-7), 1-0 (10-4).
Junior Rachal Niles faced off against Luke Garner at the No. 2 spot. Niles dominated the first set with a score of 6-1. In the second set, Garner fought back, but Niles remained relentless and claimed the victory in straight sets, 7-5 to claim the lone dual singles victory for the Bears.
UP NEXT: Morgan will take on Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Friday, March 1.
