The short story: Derrick Butler poured in 22 of his game-high 35 points help Bowling Green fly by Morgan State 102-81 on Saturday afternoon at Stroh Center.
OPENING TIP
- Butler connected on 13-of-21 from the field, including 6-for-9 from 3-point territory in 35 minutes.
- Trey Thomas finished with 16 points (4-6 3FG) with three boards. Javontae Campbell had 13 points, eight boards, five assists and four steals.
- Will Thomas, a Preseason All-MEAC First Team selection, was the Bears' most consistent performer finishing with 19 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the floor.
- Kameron Hobbs scored 12 points off the bench. Amahrie Simpkins added 11 points (5-5 FG) and Wynston Tabbs had 10 points, six rebounds and six assists.
THE DIFFERENCE
- BGSU connected on 57 percent (39-68) from the field and 39 percent (11-28) from behind the arc while the Bears shot 44 percent from the field and connected on 4-of-16 (.250) 3-pointers.
- Morgan shot 13-for-21 (62%) from the free throw line, compared to the Falcons' 81 percent (13-16).
- The Falcons held a 52-48 scoring advantage inside the paint and scored 14 points off of 12 Morgan turnovers.
- Morgan held a 39-35 advantage on the glass, including 16 offensive boards.
- Morgan's bench scored 34 points, compared to BGSU's 22.
- A thunderous one-handed dunk by Ahmarie Simpkins gave the Bears a 9-4 lead during the early going, however, a pair of free throws by Derrick Butler sparked a 21-2 run over the next 4 minutes. A layup by Preston Squire gave the Falcons a 25-11 lead with under 12 minutes remaining.
- Butler showcased his skills as he went on a personal 12-2 run against the Bears. It was clear that Butler was in a zone. His fastbreak layup capped off this impressive streak and extended the Falcons' lead to a commanding 42-23 with just six minutes remaining in the half.
- The Falcons held a 54-34 halftime lead.
- BGSU led by as many as 28 points in the second half when a dunk by Squire extended the lead to 95-67 with 5 minutes left.
- Squire knocked-in a 3-pointer with 15 seconds remaining to help the Falcons eclipse the century mark on the scoreboard.

- The win by Bowling Green improves their series record against Morgan to 3-0.
- Morgan's road record falls to 0-5.
- The 102 points was the most allowed by the Bears since a 122-59 loss against #12 University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona on November 6, 2023.
