RENO, Nev. (Nov. 24, 2024)--Morgan State traveled to the "Biggest Little City in the World" to take on host Nevada in a non-conference game on Sunday afternoon at Lawlor Events Center.
Behind a game and career-high 24 points from Victoria Davis, the Wolf Pack would defeat Morgan State, 66-56 in the first meeting between the two programs.
Davis shot 7-of-15 from the floor and knocked down 8-of-9 from the charity stripe, while Lexie Givens pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and scored all 10 of her points, by going 10-for-10 at the line.
The Wolf Pack (3-3) connected on 28-of-35 (80%) from the free throw line for the game. Nevada attempted just 10 free throws in the first half and hit eight. The Lady Bears went to the line 30 times, connecting on 17 for 57%.
Morgan State (4-5) had four players score in double figures, led by
Jael Butler, who came off the bench to score a team-high 11 points.
Tamaria Rumph and
Ja'la Bannerman also came off the bench and scored 10 points apiece, as the Lady Bears' bench accounted for 41 of the team's 56 points. Starter,
Maya Woodson also added 10 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
The Lady Bears, who shot just 1-for-14 (7.1%) and were held to just seven points in the first quarter, overcame a slow start by outscoring the host Wolf Pack, 23-16 in the second period to even the score at 30-30 at the intermission.
However, behind a 9-2 run in the third quarter, Nevada would once again outscore the Lady Bears by seven points, like it did in the opening period, to take a 51-44 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Both teams shot 32% from the floor. The Lady Bears went 19-of-59 from the floor (32.2%), while Nevada shot 18-of-56 (32.1%). Morgan would struggle from three-point range, hitting just 1-of-14 (). Nevada also struggled from beyond the arc, going 2-of-13 (15.4%).
Next up for Morgan State is a trip to the Nation's Capital to face George Washington (4-2) on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at noon at the Smith Center. The game will air live kn ESPN+.
