BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 18, 2024)--The Morgan State athletics department will hold its second annual Morgan Sate University Education Day "Building Bridges – Pathways to Education" with the women's basketball program, when the Lady Bears welcome Washington Adventist to Hill Field House on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m.
More than 600 youth attended last year's inaugural event. This year Morgan State athletics has partnered with the School of Education to invite 10-12 schools. Already over 1,500 third, fourth and fifth graders from the Baltimore Community are anticipated to attend.
Students will be greeted by Morgan State mascot Benny the Bear and receive a brief history of The National Treasure by student-athletes and Early Education majors. They will also be taught the Bear Chant and Bear Dance. The event is supported by McDonald's Family Restaurants of Washington, D.C., Greater Baltimore and Eastern Shore.
"We are proud of the developing partnership that we have with the City of Baltimore and their school system," said Sterling Steward, Morgan State Senior Associate Athletics Director/Chief Revenue Officer. I hope that we will continue to develop this partnership until we have to find a larger venue. Our first step is to expose Baltimore elementary schools to college. And we think this is an awesome opportunity four our first step in exposing them to college."
