BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 8, 2024)--Delaware State's Denijsha Wilson scored with 5.5 seconds remaining in overtime to give the visiting Hornets a 73-71 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory over Morgan State on Monday evening at Hill Field House.

The win was the Hornets' second straight over the Lady Bears in Baltimore and just their second win in the series in the last nine meetings against Morgan State.

Delaware State improved to 5-10, 1-1 MEAC, while Morgan State dropped to 6-11, 1-1 MEAC.

Ja'Naiah Johnson led the Hornets with a game-high 18 points, while Wilson finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, three steals and four assists. Savannah Brooks tallied 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range, had four assist and three steals, while Tyshonne Tollie also had 14 points, grabbed seven rebounds and totaled two assists and two steals. McKenzie Stewart came off the bench to pull down a team-high 11 rebounds.

Morgan State took a 62-60 lead with 1:38 remaining in regulation, following a three-pointer from the right wing by
Dakota Alston. The Lady Bears had a chance to extend their cushion at the free throw line, but missed three consecutive free throws, until
Emily Jones knocked down her second attempt to give Morgan a 63-60 advantage with 20.2 seconds left.

The Hornets would get a bank shot three-pointer from Brooks at the top of the key to tie the score at 63 all with 17.3 left in the contest. Morgan State would have an opportunity at victory, but would not connect on its final attempt, sending the game into overtime.

In the extra session, Delaware State took a 71-67 lead with 1:52 to play, following back-to-back baskets by Brooks and Naomi Zulueta. Alston drained a three-pointer and
Tamaria Rumph added a free throw to even the score at 71, setting the stage for Wilson's heroics.  Â

Morgan State was led by
Sedayjha Payne and
Laila Fair, who each recorded a double-double. Payne finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Fair totaled 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Amaria Smith came off the bench to score 10 points and Alston knocked down three shots from beyond the arc to finish with nine points.

Next up for Morgan State will be a matchup against crosstown rival Coppin State on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Physical Education Complex. This will be the 91
st meeting between the two with the Lady Bears leading the series, 47-43. Morgan State has won 12 of the last 13 regular season contests over the Eagles.

Coppin State (5-11, 2-0 MEAC) was a 75-69 winner at home on Monday to Maryland Eastern Shore.
