Morgan State Drops Opener In Puerto Rico To Campbell

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Nov 23,2023)--Morgan State was dealt a 60-46 non-conference loss to Campbell on Thanksgiving evening at Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in the opener of the Puerto Rico Thanksgiving Clasico.
 
The Camels improved to 4-1 on the season, while Morgan State fell to 2-3 and 0-10 all-time in Puerto Rico.
 
Joelle Johnson led Morgan State with a team-high 11 points and pulled down a game-high six rebounds. Tamaria Rumph and Sedayjha Payne each came off the bench to score eight points.
 
The Lady Bears scored the game's first seven points, but the Camels responded with nine consecutive points and held a 12-11 advantage after the first quarter when Shy Tuelle hit a three-pointer.
 
Campbell would not relinquish the lead and led 27-20 at the intermission when Tuelle connected on another quarter ending trey to end the scoring.
 
The Camels were led by Tuelle, who finished with a game-high 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from three-point range. Gianni Boone shot 4-of-5 and finished with nine points, all in the fourth quarter and Christabel Ezumah added eight points and a game-high eight rebounds.
 
The Lady Bears shot 19-of-54 (35%) from the floor, including 3-of-12 (25%) from beyond the arc. Campbell shot 42.9% (21-of-49) from the floor and hit 7-of-21 (33%) from three-point range. The Camels were 11-of-17 (64.7%) at the free throw line and Morgan State was 5-for-8 (62.5%).
 
Morgan State returns to action on Friday, Nov. 24, when it closes out the Puerto Rico Clasico against UNC Asheville. Tip-off is at 4 p.m. EST.
