Before joining the coaching ranks, Freeman was a standout for Georgetown, playing in the Big East Conference of the NCAA Division I, from 2007 to 2011. Prior to the 2010–11 season, Freeman was named the pre-season Big East Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year and would go on to earn an All-Big East First Team selection. He was also a Second-Team Big-East selection in 2010 and was honored to the Big East All-Freshman Team in 2008.

"I want to thank Coach Broadus for giving me this incredible opportunity to join his staff," said Freeman. "I'm very excited to be here and I'm ready to work. I'm looking forward to helping our student-athletes achieve their goals on and off the court."

On the hardwood, Freeman scored 1,761 points in four seasons with the Hoyas. He finished his college career by averaging 13.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and shot 49.8 percent from the field.

At the time of his departure from Georgetown, he ranked ninth in scoring, eighth in field goals, third all-time in free throw percentage, third in three pointers, and sixth in three-point shooting percentage.

Following his time with Georgetown, Freeman played professional basketball overseas for Italy, Israel and the Dominican Republic. Freeman also spent time in the NBA Summer League with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2012 and the Indiana Pacers in 2013. He also played in the NBA Development League with the Iowa Energy (2013) and Long Island Nets (2016).

Freeman was a prep legend in Washington where he led DeMatha to three straight WCAC titles. He was named the consensus All-Met Player of the year in 2007 and a Parade and McDonald's All-America.
