Rhooms Lands 25th in the Men’s Triple Jump at the NCAA East Prelim

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. —  Morgan State graduate student Kobe-Jordan Rhooms landed 25th overall in the men's triple jump at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Bloomington, Ind. on Friday.
 
 
Rhooms finished fifth in his flight by recording a leap of 15.34m (50' 4") on his first of three attempts.  Rhooms recorded his highest finish at the NCAA East Prelim since posting a 74th place finish (15.02m | 49'3.5") in 2021. Rhooms recorded a personal best in the men's outdoor triple jump with a leap of 15.91m (52' 2.5"), set Dec. 4, 2021 at the Navy Invitational.


 
The Montego Bay, Jamaica native entered the competition as the No. 21 seed. He earned the ranking after clearing a school-record height of 51.70 meters at the Morgan State Legacy Track & Field Meet, held at Morgan on April 23rd. Rhooms has dominated the triple jump this season, most recently recording a gold-medal winning performance of 15.31meters at the MEAC Track & Field Championships in Norfolk, Va. 
 
Rhooms was one of 44 triple jump competitors and 36 Division I programs, and joined Norfolk State's Isaac Haywood as the only two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) student-athletes participating at the NCAA Division I Outdoor East Preliminaries.

Rhooms wraps up what has been a sensational collegiate career and he was recently recognized as the Student-Athlete of the Year at Morgan State's 34th Annual Athletics Awards Banquet.
 
The graduate student started off the Indoor Track & Field season be being named MEAC Indoor Field Performer of the Week after posting the top mark in the triple jump, leaping 15.91 meters to win the event at the Navy Invitational. He led the Bears with 20 points and repeated as Outstanding Field Performer of the MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships where he medaled in all three of his jumping events by recording a silver medal in the high jump (6-10.75) and bronze medals in the triple jump (49-09.75) and long jump (24-4.5).
