WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 2, 2022)-Morgan State's Lady Bears dropped a hard fought Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match on Saturday to Howard, 4-3 at Banneker Recreational Center. The loss was the first MEAC defeat of the season for Morgan State, while Howard extended its winning streak to six consecutive matches.

Morgan fell to 4-8-1 on the season and 3-1 in the MEAC, while Howard improved to 8-3, 5-0 MEAC.

Doubles (1, 3, 2)
Howard started off the match by winning two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point.

Nolwenn Cardoso and
Stefania Moysiadi lost to Jordan Grayson and Sifa Butcher 1-6 at No. 1 doubles.

Averiana Mitchell and
Asmara Rose lost their No. 2 doubles contest to Nadia Pegram and Emnet Simunyola 3-6.

Hannah Smith and
Ana-Lei Kalawe won at the No. 3 spot against Alexandra Blackwell and Kendall Addison 6-2.

Morgan State won three of the six singles matches played, falling one win shy of victory.

The Lady Bears fell behind 2-0 when Smith lost at No. 1 singles to Grayson 3-6, 5-7.
Anabel Aran got the guests on the board with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles over Pegram, cutting the Howard lead to 2-1.

Howard upped its advantage to 3-1 when Butcher defeated Mitchell in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in a No. 2 contest.

Rose earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Howard's Blackwell in a No. 5 match and Cardoso followed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4 over Yemis Ifederu to even the score at 3-3.

The contest would come down to the final match of the day at No. 6 singles. Morgan State's
Stefania Moysiadi would take Howard's Hana El Sherif to three sets, before falling 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, giving the hosts the 4-3 victory.
"It was a tough loss, but we learned that we can challenge them, we just need to start with more energy so next time we will pull through with the win," said Aran. "We'll be ready to play them again and win the championship."

Morgan State will be back on the courts on Monday, April 4, when it travels to Dover, Del. to take on the Hornets of Delaware State.
