ORANGEBURG, S.C. (April 23, 2022--Morgan moved into sole position of first in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) standings with a doubleheader sweep of host South Carolina State 9-1 and 8-0 in five innings at Bulldogs Field on Saturday.

Morgan State (25-13, 14-3 MEAC), which is in the midst of a season-long 10-game winning streak, entered the day in a three-way tie for first in the MEAC with Norfolk State and Howard with 12-3 league records. Norfolk State defeated Delaware State in a single game on Saturday, while Howard split its home doubleheader with Maryland Eastern Shore.

The Lady Bears totaled 17 runs on 17 hits in the two games, while their pitching staff surrendered one run on a combined four hits and struck out 17 batters.

Morgan State scored nine runs on 10 hits in the opening game and coupled by another standout performance from starting pitcher
Anaya Hunte, the Lady Bears defeated S.C. State, 9-1.

Hunte would finish with a game-high 11 strikeouts in six innings of work to put her over the century mark for strikeouts at 109 for the season.

Mia Ewell totaled two hits, two runs and had a game-high three RBIs.
Danielle Jason also had two hits and scored twice and
Tayven Rousseau drove in two runs on a hit.
Madison Nunez finished 1-for-1 with a run, RBI and had a game-high two walks.

Morgan State broke a scoreless game with three runs in the third inning.
Mia Ewell singled to drive in the first two runs and Rousseau flied out to center field and
Mia Ewell scored on the play, taking advantage of a fielding error on the shortstop.

The Lady Bears went back to work with four more runs in the fifth to increase their lead to 7-0.

Danielle Jason and later scored on a single by Rousseau to put the guests ahead 5-0.

Morgan State added two more runs in the seventh on a single up the middle hit by
Madison Nunez to score
Irene Martin. Nunez would later score on a wild pitch, as the Lady Bears went up 9-0.

Hunte, who improved to 12-3 on the season, had yet another no-hitter going heading into the bottom of the seventh when the Bulldogs' Mak McDaniel led off the inning with a bunt single to break up the no-hitter. Cassi Church followed with a single up the middle and Kyla Reeves loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Ja'Nau Cohen singled up the middle to score McDaniel, cutting the deficit to 9-1.
