SETTING THE STAGE
No. 4-seeded Morgan State (12-13) battles No. 5-seeded South Carolina State (15-15) Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the MEAC Tournament with a spot in Friday's semifinals game on the line. The winner will face the winner of No. 1-seeded Norfolk State/No. 8-seeded Delaware State.
Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
THE SERIES
• Thursday's contest will mark the 84th meeting between the schools ... SCSU leads the series 44-39.
• Morgan has won the last four meetings since 2020.
• The last time the two teams met on the hardwood the Bears pulled out a 76-66 win over the Bulldogs on Feb. 14, 2022 in Baltimore, Md. Trevor Moore scored 17 points and Malik Miller scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Lagio Grantsaan added 13 points and Sherwyn Devonish added 10 points and a game-high six assists off the bench.
• The Bears swept the season series with S.C. State, winning 88-81 in Orangeburg on January 10 and snapped a two-game losing skid.
• South Carolina State's last win against the Bears was on Feb. 9, 2019 -- Damani Applewhite scored a game-high 21 points, including the go-ahead dunk with 2:07 left, and the Bulldogs rallied to beat Morgan 85-81 at the Smith-Harold-Middleton Memorial Center. Stanley Davis scored 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the field to lead four teammates in double-figure scoring for the Bears
SCOUTING THE EAGLES (15-15)
• South Carolina State enters the MEAC Tournament coming off a 67-62 loss at North Carolina Central on March 3 in their regular season finale. It marked the Bulldogs' third consecutive loss. T.J. Madlock finished with a team-high 23 points and fiver rebounds, while Rahsaan Edwards added 13 points in the loss.
• Tony Madlock was named the new South Carolina State head men's basketball coach on March ,25th , 2021after spending the last three seasons as an assistant at Memphis University alongside former NBA All-Star Penny Hardaway. Madlock, who has 25 years of experience as a college assistant and one season (2017-18) as interim head coach at Ole Miss, spent four seasons with the Rebels prior to Memphis.
• SCSU finished the 2020-21 season 1-17 overall and 1-7 in MEAC play ... The Bulldogs ended their season with an 63-58 loss to Florida A&M.
• The Bulldogs are currently 15-15 overall and completed the regular season with a 7-7 mark in conference play and will enter the MEAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed.
• Freshman 6-3 guard T.J. Madlock is averaging 12.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg and is shooting 40.5 percent from the floor leads the Bulldogs. Redshirt sophomore 6-6 guard Cameron Jones (Memphis, Tenn.) is averaging averaging 10.9 ppg and is shooting 38.5 percent from the field and 26.1 percent from 3-point territory, followed by 6-8 Hampton transfer Edward Hampton-Olivier (Palmer Park, Md.) with 7.7 ppg and 6.4 rpg, and Deaquan Williams is chipping in 6.1 ppg and 6.2 rpg.
• The Bulldogs are averaging 71.0 points per game, while holding its opponents to 69.8 points.
• SCSU is shooting 39 percent from the field and 30 percent from beyond the arc.

THREE PLAYERS AVERAGING DOUBLE-FIGURES
The Bears will enter the MEAC Tournament with three players averaging double-digits.
• Senior guard Malik Miller is the team's leading scorer averaging 12.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and is shooting 52.7 percent from the field.
• Junior De'Torrion Ware is the team's second leading scorer averaging 10.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and is shooting 34.9 percent from the field ... he recorded a season-high 27-point outing vs. St. Mary's College of Maryland (Nov. 9).
• Senior forward Lagio Grantsaan is averaging 10.7 points, to go along with 5.9 rebounds and is shooting 49 percent from the field ... he has averaged 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in his last four games.
OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
• The Bears are currently averaging 75.7 points (No. 2 in MEAC) thru 25 games.
• Morgan exploded for 118 points in its 2021-22 season opener versus St. Mary's College of Maryland and followed it up with a 126-71 win against Penn State Allegheny. The Bears beat Goucher 100-41.
• The Bears are shooting 43.7 percent from the field (ranked No. 4) and 31.5 percent from beyond the arc (No. 6).
TURNOVER MARGIN
Through games played on Sunday, March 6, Morgan ranked No. 15 in the nation in turnover margin (4.0 ratio, with 392 turnovers and 492 opponent turnovers).

• Morgan has made at least three 3-pointers in 129 of 140 games since the start of the 2017-18 season. • The Bears made a school single-game record 15 three-pointers (on 32 attempts) at South Carolina State on Jan. 10, 2022…Morgan won that road game, 88-81 in overtime.
