Morgan State Holds 2nd Place In The MEAC, Goes 2-2 on Saturday

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (Feb. 20, 2022)-The Morgan State Lady Bears remain in second place in the composite standings after Saturday's round of traditional play. On Saturday, Morgan had a total pinfall of 4,822 for a 192.88 average for five games bowled.
 
Morgan ended up 2-2 on the day which moves its conference match record to 8-4. The composite standings after Saturday's round are as follows:

#18 Morgan State 956, #24 Monmouth 1,057        
The Bears' first match against the Hawk's of Monmouth saw a slight Bear's lead through five frames. However beginning in the sixth frame the Hawks filled every frame and struck on 24 of the 30 possible remaining frames to close out Morgan State in the first match. Leading the Bears was Ashanti Fernandes and Natalia Miranda Vega with a 224 and 219. The remaining

#18 Morgan State 992, #6 NC A&T 1,070
In Match 2, the #6 North Carolina A&T had a balanced attack and took a lead through five frames. True to fashion, the Lady Bears battled hard to the end losing to the Aggies in a high scoring match. Leading the way again was Ashanti Fernandes with a 248 and Natalia Miranda Vega with a 211. La'Monique Berrios and Cheyenne Washington fired games of 194 and 192, and Carrington Beaman with a 147 game. 
 
#18 Morgan State 1,026, Howard 813
Morgan State took control in the early frames and never looked back in the victory against Howard. Ashanti Fernandes stayed hot with a 255 games giving her a three-game total of 727 at that point. All players contributed nicely. La'Monique Berrios with a 214, Cheyenne Washington with a 197 and Carrington Beaman and Natalia Miranda Vega both with 180 games.
 
#18 Morgan State 961, Bye     
Naomi Smith and Aliya Adams came into the lineup and the scoring pace remained strong for he Morgan State. Cheyenne Washington fired eight strikes out of a possible 12 frames in leading the Bears with a 248 games. Ashanti Fernandes kept her pace with a 229 game, Aliya Adams came in with a 173 game, Naomi Smith contributed with a 158 and Natalia Miranda Vega had a 153 game.
 
#18 Morgan State 887, Coppin State 850              
In the final round of the day, the Bears battled Coppin State. This match featured the consistency of Morgan State at the end to get past the Lady Eagles. The Bears scoring was as follows: Aliya Adams 192, Naomi Smith 185, Natalia Miranda Vega 179, Ashanti Fernandes 175 and Cheyenne Washington 156.
 
Morgan State head coach Thomas Falbo states about Day#1. "Today we saw teams get hot against us but we did not back down. It also saw all players get in and contribute, which is great to see," said Falbo. "We'll take what we learned and hope to have a strong Sunday to close out the conference regular season."
 
Tomorrow the Bears face four conference opponents in traditional game play: #16 MDES, Norfolk State, #14 Delaware State and UAB.
