Morgan Runs Past Mountain Lions

The short story: Senior guard Isaiah Burke poured in a game-high 23 points as Morgan State scored 18 fast break points to run past Penn State Wilkes-Barre in non-conference action Wednesday night at the Hill Field House.

OPENING TIP
  • Burke scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the first half and connected on 4-of-9 from beyond the arc ... it marked Burke's fourth consecutive game of scoring 20 or more points.
  • Senior guard Malik Miller added a triple-double as he registered 16 points (6-9 FG) with 12 rebounds and a season-high 10 assists in 25 minutes.
  • Senior forward Khalil Turner finished with 16 points (7-10 FG) and added five steals, four assists and two blocks.
  • Djonkam Lewis recorded a season-high 14 points and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field.  
  • Jalen Willis (Baltimore, Md.) scored 8 points before suffering an injury with PSUWB trailing 53-22. 
  • Teequan Holley led the Lions with 10 points (5-9 FG) with three boards and two assists.
 
THE DIFFERENCE
  • The Bears jumped out to a 16-2 by the first media timeout and never let off the gas.
  • Morgan held a 53-22 halftime lead behind 62.9 percent shooting, while limiting the Lions to just 7-for-28 shooting. 
  • Morgan connected on 7-of-22 3-pointers (.318), while PSUWB were held to 3-of-15 (.200).
  • Djonkam Lewis scored on a jumper in the paint to help ignite a 16-0 run to give the Bears its largest lead at 93-35.
  • Morgan turned over the Lions 26 times and scored 31 points off those miscues.
  • The Bears out-rebounded the PSUWB by a 44-31 margin.
  • Morgan shot .565 (39-of-69) from the field, compared to PSUWB's .315 (17-of-54). 
  • The Bears held a 12-7 advantage in second chance points.  
  • Morgan led for 39:44 out of the 40 minutes, while the game was tied for :16.
  • Morgan scored 50 points in the paint and finished with 26 assists.
 
NOTABLE
  • Wednesday's game marked the first meeting between the teams in basketball action.
  • The game was recorded as an Exhibition game for PSUWB.
 
UP NEXT
The Bears will continue non-conference play when they play travel to UMBC on Saturday, Dec. 10. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena.
