MANHATTAN, Kan. (Dec. 21, 2022)--Morgan State returned to the court today for a morning tilt against Big 12 foe Kansas State. The host Wildcats would defeat Morgan State in the first-ever meeting between the two programs, 77-46 at Bramlage Coliseum.

Morgan State, which has now dropped three straight, fell to 7-5, while Kansas State upped its winning streak to two straight and improved to 11-2.

Gabby Gregory scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down a game-high six rebounds to lead the Wildcats. Rebekah Dallinger came off the bench and scored 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including 2-for-3 from three-point range.

Morgan State was led by
Charlene Shepherd, who totaled 16 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Sunshine McCrae finished with 14 points, three rebounds and an assist.

K-State scored the first six points of the game and led 14-6, following a layup by Sarah Shematsi with 3:25 left in the first quarter. 25 seconds later, Shepherd connected on a free throw to complete a three-point play to bring Morgan within 14-9. That would be as close as the Lady Bears would get the rest of the game.

The Wildcats would score the final eight points in the period, capped off by a three-pointer by Emilee Ebert to give the hosts a 22-9 advantage. K-State carried a 21-point lead (41-20) into the locker room at the intermission.

Morgan State and the Wildcats played an even third quarter, each scoring 12 points, as the hosts maintained their 21-point advantage (50-32) with a quarter to play.

K-State finished the game scoring 46 points in the paint. The Wildcats shot 49 percent (28-of-57) from the floor and were 5-of-22 (22.7 percent) from beyond the arc. The hosts connected on 16-for-21 (76 percent) at the free throw line.

The Lady Bears shot 31 percent (18-of-58) for the game and connected on 1-for-17 (5.9) from three-point range. Morgan State knocked down 9-of-16 (56 percent) from the charity line.

Morgan State will close out the non-conference portion of its schedule when it visits Davidson on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 5 p.m. in Davidson, N.C. Â

Davidson (7-6), winners of two straight and four of its last five games, defeated Charlotte, 68-55 at home in the inaugural 704 Cup game on Wednesday, Dec. 21. The win was the program's 499th victory.
