Morgan State Finishes 14th at the UMES Hawk Classic

MILLSBORO, Del. (Nov. 21, 2022)--The Morgan State Lady Bears bowling team went 1-2 in Sunday's matches and finished in 14th place at the UMES Hawk Classic, hosted by fell Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Morgan State started the day in 14th place and they finished the day in that position after three rounds of Best 4-of-7 Baker matches. The matches went as follows:
 
#19 Morgan State 4, #23 Monmouth 2
Morgan State took a commanding 3-1 lead over the Lady Hawks after four games. In Game 5, Monmouth won in a tight finish 194-190 to make the match 3-2 in favor of the Bears. In Game 6, the Bears started out with a string of strikes and held strong to claim the match victory with a score of 220-128.
 
#19 Morgan State 2, #17 Tulane 4                                                                                                 
This match saw Tulane start out slow with a 158 game, but Morgan was struggling filling frames and rolled a 125 to have the Green Wave up 1-0. Morgan State battled back to take the next two games to take a 2-1 lead. The Green Wave proceeded to win the next three games rolling a 218-187-181 to defeat the Bears 4-2 in Match #2.
 
#19 Morgan State 3, Mercyhurst 4                                                                                                        
Morgan started the match strong with games of 216-225-172-222 to take a commanding 3-1 lead over Mercyhurst. It was there Mercyhurst rattled off three games of 199-227-185 to take the match 4-3. It was the last match of Senior Ashanti Fernandes' career, who struck in the 10th frame of the final game to end her career on a high note.

Cheyenne Washington 19.73, Johnna Hill 19.44, Natalia Miranda Vega 19.27, Aliya Adams 18.58, Naomi Smith 17.60, Ashanti Fernandes 17.45, La'Monique Berrios 17.02, Carrington Beaman 15.13.
 
"We had our first breakthrough last Sunday at MEAC #1 making shots at critical times in the match to turn matches in our favor," said Morgan State head coach Tom Falbo. "This weekend we had those close opportunities a handful of times and need to elevate our shot making in those situations, and this team will turn matches in their favor for sure."
 
Morgan State will next be in action at the Northeast Classic on January 20-22, 2023 in Deptford, NJ, co-hosted by Long Island University and Sacred Heart University.
