BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 16, 2022)-The Morgan State women's basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season, following a 66-41 non-conference victory over Washington Adventist on Wednesday evening at Hill Field House.

Morgan State's starters combined for 53 of the 66 points. Gabrielle Johnson scored a game-high 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting to lead three Lady Bears in double figures scoring. Charlene Shepherd scored 13 points, had seven rebounds, three assists, four steals and two blocks. Sunshine McCrae recorded a double-double with a game-high 13 rebounds to go with 10 points, four steals, two assists and a block. Taylor Addison fell short of a double-double with 12 rebounds, including nine on the offensive end and eight points.

The Lady Bears, who improved to 7-0 all-time against Washington Adventist, have now won 30 of their last 33 home contests. Â

Morgan State jumped out to a 24-7 advantage after the first quarter, but outscored the Shock by three points in the second period, as the Lady Bears were limited to 11 points and took a 35-15 lead into the lockerroom.

WAU (2-2) came out on fire in the third quarter, connecting on three straight three-pointers and four of their first five baskets, to pull within 39-29, following a trey by Sole Carroll with 5:03 left in the period. Morgan State responded with a mini 6-0 run over the next minute to up its lead to 16 points (45-29) on a layup by Johnson. The Shock would close out the period on a 9-4 spurt to pull within 49-38 after three quarters of play.

It was all Morgan State in the fourth period, as the Lady Bears held the guests to just three points on 1-for-10 shooting, while outscoring WAU, 17-3 in the frame. Jahnaya Peterson's jumper with 7:23 left in the contest cut the Morgan advantage to 16 points (57-41). That would be the last points for the Shock, as the Lady Bears closed out the game with a 9-0 run.

Morgan State shot 27-for-73 (37 percent) and was just 3-of-20 (15 percent) from three-point range. The Lady Bears went 9-for-15 (60 percent) from the charity line. Morgan State forced 29 Washington Adventist turnovers and recorded 19 steals.

Shelby Ricks led the Shock with 11 points, shooting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Sarah Shamdeen and Carroll each added eight points. WAU shot 13-for-49 (26.5 percent) from the floor and 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from three-point range. The Shock converted on 8-of-14 (57 percent) from the free throw line.

The hosts held a 57-33 rebounding advantage and a slim 11-10 assists advantage over the Shock.

Morgan State returns to Hill Field House on Friday, Nov. 18 when it entertains Saint Peter's for a non-conference game at 5:30 p.m. for Gratitude Day.Â
