STRUTHERS, Ohio (Oct. 15, 2022)--The Morgan State Lady Bears are 5-5 after 10 matches of competition and remain in 8th place after Saturday's traditional game matches. They have a total pinfall of 9,371 for their two days of competition for a 187.4 overall team average.
Highlights of Saturday's Traditional Matches:
- Cheyenne Washington led the Bears in scoring average with a 205.2 for five games bowled.
- Johnna Hill and Ashanti Fernandes came into the line up to help the Bears during the day. Hill averaged 203 for three games bowled and Fernandes averaged 193.5 for four games bowled.
Saturday's Traditional Matches:
#19 Morgan State 858, #14 Saint Francis (Pa.) 854
The Bears executed a strong 9
th and 10
th frames to rally around the Red Flash in match #1. Morgan State filled every frame and sealed the victory with
Natalia Miranda Vega's strike in the 10
th frame in the anchor position. The Bears were greatly helped by junior,
Cheyenne Washington who fired an impressive 231 game to lead all scoring.

The next match saw the Dukes of Duquesne catch fire and take control of the match around the 8
th frame to get the win against the Bears.
Ashanti Fernandes came into the lineup and led the Bears with a 208 game. Miranda Vega and Washington stayed solid with games of 191 and 187, respectively.
#19 Morgan State 1,001, Medaille 909
Morgan State took the reins in this match putting the pressure on the Mavericks early and stayed strong to the end. Led by Washington with a 223, the Bears had strong scoring throughout the lineup. She was followed by Miranda Vega with a 205, freshman
Johnna Hill who entered the lineup rolled a 202, Fernandes fired a 192 and senior
Aliya Adams rolled a 179 game for the Bears.
#19 Morgan State 961, #6 Arkansas State 1,001
Match 4 saw Morgan State face the perennial power and sixth-ranked Arkansas State Red Wolves. Even though Arkansas State held the lead for most of the match, in the closing frames the Lady Bears were a few strikes away from getting doubles in the 10
th frame that would have made the match up for grabs. The Red Wolves finished strong with their final two players to seal victory in Match 4. The Lady Bears saw balanced scoring again:

In the final round of the day, a strong Mercyhurst team filled frames consistently throughout their lineup to outpace Morgan State to get the win.
Ashanti Fernandes led the Bear's scoring with a 204. Hill, and Washington rolled games of 194 and 182, respectively and
La'Monique Berrios came into the line up to score a 191.

Cheyenne and Natalia were strong for us today and it's great to see how well players coming into our lineup are able to respond. Tomorrow is about believing in what is possible to elevate our play tomorrow."
