SETTING THE STAGE
Morgan State (5-7, 0-0) will travel to face the South Carolina State Bulldogs inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center on Monday, February 10.  The Bears will enter the game coming off a 100-41 victory against Goucher College on Jan. 5. SCSU (7-9, 0-1) fell to Coppin State 78-72 on Saturday night in their MEAC Opener -- snapping a a 4-game winning streak. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

THE SERIES
• Monday's contest will mark the 82nd meeting between the schools ... SCSU leads the series 44-37.
• The last time the two teams met on the hardwood the Bears edged out an 78-72 win over the Bulldogs on Feb. 17, 2020 in Orangeburg, SC. The Bears had five players scoring in double-figures. Malik Miller led the way with 14 points (6-12 FG) and six rebounds. David Syfax and Lagio Grantsaan scored 13 points apiece, and Stanley Davis and Sherwyn Devonish-Prince added 12 each.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
• South Carolina State enters Monday's contest coming off a 74-65 loss to Coppin State on Jan. 8. T.J. Madlock tossed in a team-high 21 points along with nine (9) rebounds, but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State suffered its first league loss. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs led in every major category including points in the paint (34-26), points off turnovers (19-12), 2nd chance points (18-5), fast break points (6-4), and bench points (18-10). The Bulldogs defense force the Eagles team to a game-high 19 turnovers on the day.
Tony Madlock was named the new South Carolina State head men's basketball coach on March ,25th , 2021after spending the last three seasons as an assistant at Memphis University alongside former NBA All-Star Penny Hardaway. Madlock, who has 25 years of experience as a college assistant and one season (2017-18) as interim head coach at Ole Miss, spent four seasons with the Rebels prior to Memphis.
• SCSU finished the 2020-21 season 1-17 overall and 1-7 in MEAC play ... The Bulldogs ended their season with an 63-58 loss to Florida A&M.
• The Bulldogs are currently 7-9 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
• Freshman 6-3 guard T.J. Madlock is averaging 11.9 ppg, 5.6 rpg and is shooting 39.0 percent from the floor leads the Bulldogs. Redshirt sophomore 6-6 guard Cameron Jones (Memphis, Tenn.)  is averaging averaging 11.8 ppg and is shooting 39.8 percent from the field and 26.3 percent from 3-point territory, followed by 6-8 Hampton transfer Edward Hampton-Olivier (Palmer Park, Md.) with 8.0 ppg and 6.3 rpg, and sophomore 5-10 guard Rakeim Gary is chipping in 7.5 ppg and 5.9 rpg. 
• The Bulldogs are averaging 73.1 points per game, while holding its opponents to 70.9 points.
• SCSU is shooting 39.2 percent from the field and 32.0 percent from beyond the arc.
• SCSU is in the top half of the MEAC in several categories, which include ranking first in offensive rebounding (14.4) and second in defensive rebounds (27.3) and field goal percentage defense (.306)

OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
• The Bears are currently averaging 76.5 points (No. 2 in MEAC) thru 12 games.
• Morgan exploded for 118 points in its 2021-22 season opener versus St. Mary's College of Maryland and followed it up with a 126-71 win against Penn State Allegheny. The Bears beat Goucher 100-41.
• The Bears are shooting 44.5 percent from the field (ranked No. 3) and 29.8 percent from beyond the arc (No. 6).
• Morgan led the MEAC in scoring by averaging 79.8 points thru 22 games of the 2020-21 season.
• They scored a season-high 102 in a home win vs. Lincoln-Pa. (Dec. 1, 2020).
• MSU also led the MEAC in offensive rebounding (39.7 avg).

TURNOVER MARGIN
Through games played on Wednesday, Jan. 9, Morgan ranked No. 3 in the nation in turnover margin (7.2 ratio, with 174 turnovers and 260 opponent turnovers).
Sherwyn Devonish has registered 41 assists and 14 turnovers and currently ranks No. 20 in the nation in assist-turnover ratio.

BEAR D 
Morgan has started off the 2021-22 campaign by allowing opponents to 72.3 points per game (rank No. 6 in MEAC) and 43.8 percent shooting from the field (No. 8).
• MSU's opponents have shot at a 39.3 percent clip on average from beyond the arc ... this ranks last in the conference.
• The 21.7 turnovers per game Morgan's defense forces ranks No. 3 in the country ... MSU's 10.7 steals per game ranks No. 36 in the nation.

THE CHARITY STRIPE
The Bears' returning team includes six players who shot 70 percent or better from the free throw line last season.
• Morgan has converted 65.3 percent (156-239; ranks No. 7 in MEAC) from the stripe thru 12  games.
Trevor Moore is currently shooting 73.1 percent (19-26) from the stripe to lead the Bears.
• Last season, Morgan shot 73.9 percent (369-499; ranked No. 1 in MEAC) from the stripe, led by De'Torrion Ware who shot 83.2 percent (84-101; ranked No. 5) and Malik Miller 71.6 percent (58-81; ranked No. 10).
