SETTING THE STAGE
Morgan State (7-10,2-3) will travel to face the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks on Monday at Hytche Arena. The Bears will enter the game coming off an 82-70 win against Delaware State on Sunday. Eastern Shore (6-9, 1-3) hit a buzzer beater to drop Coppin State 64-61 on Saturday in Baltimore. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be streamed live on FloHoops.com.
THE SERIES
• Monday's contest will mark the 94th matchup between the schools ... The Bears lead the series 55-38.
• The Bears last win against Eastern Shore was on Feb. 8, 2020 ... Three Bears scored in double-figures, and Morgan State defeated the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks 61-53 at Hill Field House. Senior forward David Syfax Jr scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds, sophomore Malik Miller added 13 points and six rebounds, and junior Troy Baxter Jr chipped in 12 points.
• Freshman guard Isaiah Burke was a spark as the reserve led the Bears with 17 points, but it was Maryland Eastern Shore that pushed through for victory at the Hytche Arena on March 4, 2019. Bryan Urrutia scored a game-high 18 points with seven rebounds and the Hawks held off Morgan State 78-73. Eastern Shore had six players score in double-figures and finished the night by shooting 55 percent from the field and 41 percent from beyond the arc. Stanley Davisalso came off the bench to score 16 points (6-10 FG) with a game- high 13 rebounds.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS (6-9, 1-3)
• Jason Crafton was announced as the head coach of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team on April 24, 2019. The 18-year-veteran of coaching spent this past season in the NBA ranks as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers' G-League affiliate Delaware Blue Coats. Prior to that, he was the head coach at his alma mater, Nyack College from 2012-18. He spent the beginning of his career as an assistant at the United States Naval Academy and Villanova University.
• The Hawks opted out of competition during the 2020-21 year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Eastern Shore was picked eighth in the eight-team 2021-22 MEAC regular season standings ... Junior Da'Shawn Phillip (Baltimore, Maryland) has earned preseason All-MEAC honors for the second consecutive season.
• Junior guard Dom London and senior guard Zion Styles leads the Hawks. London is averaging 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and is shooting 37.7 percent from the three. Styles is currently averaging 10.4 points, .7 rebounds and is shooting 38.9 percent from the field.
• Da'Shawn Phillip is chipping in 9.5 points, 4.5 boards, and 3.2 assists, while 6-5 forward Nathaniel Pollard Jr. leads the Hawks on the glass by averaging 6.1 rebounds per contest.
• Eastern Shore ranks among the top defensive teams in the league ... the Hawks rank No. 1 i steals (10.4), No. 2 in scoring defense (66.0), No. 3 in opponent rebounds (35.9) and No. 5 in opponent field goal percentage.
• Eastern Shore's Last Game -- On Saturday (January 29), the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team won their first conference game of the season as they defeated the Coppin State University Eagles 64-61. Dom London finished with a double-double as he had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Donchevell "Tuka" Nugent had his best game as a Hawk as he finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Each was a season high for Nugent.

• Be MSU's second consecutive win.
• Be MSU's third consecutive win vs. Eastern Shore since 1/27/20.
• Improve MSU's road record to 2-7 this season.
• Be MSU's third MEAC win in its last six games played.
LOOKING AHEAD
Morgan State and North Carolina Central will clash for the first time this season on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 4 p.m. inside Hill Field House.
THREE PLAYERS AVERAGING DOUBLE-FIGURES
The Bears will enter Monday's game against Maryland Eastern Shore with three players averaging double-digits.
• Junior De'Torrion Ware holds the lead for the team averaging 11.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and is shooting 32 percent from the field ... he recorded a season-high 27-point outing vs. St. Mary's College of Maryland (Nov. 9).
• Junior guard Keith McGee is averaging 11.0 points, to go along with 1.2 steals and 1.7 rebounds.
• Senior guard Malik Miller is the team's second leading scorer averaging 11.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and is shooting 50.9 percent from the field.
OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
• The Bears are currently averaging 76.9 points (No. 2 in MEAC) thru 17 games.
• Morgan exploded for 118 points in its 2021-22 season opener versus St. Mary's College of Maryland and followed it up with a 126-71 win against Penn State Allegheny. The Bears beat Goucher 100-41.
• The Bears are shooting 43.3 percent from the field (ranked No. 4) and 31.0 percent from beyond the arc (No. 5).
TURNOVER MARGIN
Through games played on Monday, Jan. 31, Morgan ranked T-No. 9 in the nation in turnover margin (5.0 ratio, with 259 turnovers and 344 opponent turnovers).
BEAR D
Morgan has started off the 2021-22 campaign by allowing opponents to 74.7 points per game (rank No. 7 in MEAC) and 44.8 percent shooting from the field (No. 8).
• MSU's opponents have shot at a 37.6 percent clip on average from beyond the arc ... this ranks No. 8 in the conference.
• The 20.2 turnovers per game Morgan's defense forces ranks No. 2 in the country ... MSU's 9.3 steals per game ranks No. 17 in the nation.
STREAKING
Morgan has made at least one 3-pointer played in its last 168 games ... That 3-point streak began after the Bears went 0-for-11 against North Carolina Central on Feb. 20, 2016 (Hill Field House).
• Morgan has made at least three 3-pointers in 122 of 132 games since the start of the 2017-18 season.
• The Bears made a school single-game record 15 three-pointers (on 32 attempts) at South Carolina State on Jan. 10, 2022…Morgan won that road game, 88-81 in overtime.
