SETTING THE STAGE
Morgan State (6-10,1-3) will look to snap a 3-game losing skid when they host the Delaware State Hornets on Sunday at Hill Field House.  The Bears will enter the game coming off a 82-62 loss at Norfolk State on Jan. 24. Delaware State (2-14, 0-3) suffered a heartbreaker 64-62 loss to South Carolina State on Monday in Dover. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. 

THE SERIES
• Sunday's contest will mark the 106th meeting between the schools ... The Bears lead the series 62-43.
• The last time the two teams met on the hardwood was on March 6, 2021 --  Senior Myles Carter scored a game-high 24 points and John Stansbury had 16 points as the Hornets beat Morgan State 82-75. The win ended the Bears' chances of closing the season with a share of the MEAC Northern Division regular season title ... Lagio Grantsaan led Morgan with 21 points and nine rebounds. Troy Baxter added 19 points, four rebounds and four blocks, while De'Torrion Ware had 16 points, four rebounds and three steals ... Sherwyn Devonish had 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.
• Morgan's last win against Delaware State was on March 5, 2021 -- De'Torrion Ware had a game-high 29 points and 10 rebounds as the Bears defeated Delaware State 92-67 at Memorial Hall in Dover ... Senior forward Troy Baxter had 18 points, eight rebounds and a block ... Junior Malik Miller finished with 13 points (5-10 FG) ... Junior guards Sherwyn Devonish and Trevor Moore pitched in 8 points each.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS (2-13, 0-3)
• Stan Waterman, a legendary First State high school coach and administrator, USA Basketball coach and former college player, was announced as Delaware State University head men's basketball coach on June 4, 2021... In 30 seasons, Waterman led the Sanford School (Del.) boy's basketball program to 571 wins, 10 state championship games and eight titles, including the last two in 2021 and 2019. His 2020 team reached the state semifinals before the tournament was shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
• Delaware State was picked sixth in the eight-team 2021-22 MEAC regular season standings.
• Senior guard Myles Carter was named to the Preseason All-MEAC First Team ... Carter, a 2020-21 All-MEAC Second Team selection, was tops on the Hornets and sixth in the MEAC in scoring at 15.0 points per game, and was the league's top free throw shooter at 88.1% last season.
Myles Carter (Philadelphia, Pa.) and 6-0 senior guard Dominik Fragala (Chantilly, Va.) currently lead the Hornets in scoring. Carter is averaging 14.1 points (No. 6 in MEAC), 5.7 rebounds and is shooting 40% from the field and 78.7% from the free throw line. Fragala is averaging 13.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and is shooting 38.7% from the field and 33.7 percent from 3-point territory. 
• Chris Sodom, a 7-foot-3 center (Washington, D.C.) is leading the Hornets on the glass by averaging 5.9 rebounds (No. 6 in MEAC) to go along with 3.4 points and 2.0 blocks.
• DSU leads the MEAC in blocked shots (3.9 avg) and ranks No. 3 in field goal percentage defense (.418), No. 4 in rebounding offense (11.1) and No. 5 in rebounding (35.8).

A WIN WOULD...
• Be MSU's first win since defeating South Carolina State (88-81 ot) on 1/10/22.
•  Be MSU's first win vs. Delaware State since 3/5/21.
•  Improve MSU's home record to 5-2 this season.
•  Be MSU's second MEAC win in its last five games played.

LOOKING AHEAD 
Morgan will travel for a matchup with the Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore on Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m. in Princess Anne, Md.
Morgan State and North Carolina Central will clash for the first time this season on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 4 p.m. inside Hill Field House. 

THREE PLAYERS AVERAGING DOUBLE-FIGURES 
The Bears will enter Saturday's game against Howard with three players averaging double-digits.
• Junior De'Torrion Ware holds the lead for the team averaging 11.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and is shooting 32 percent from the field ... he recorded a season-high 27-point outing vs. St. Mary's College of Maryland (Nov. 9).
• Junior guard Keith McGee is averaging 10.9 points, to go along with 1.2 steals and 1.8 rebounds.
• Senior guard Malik Miller is the team's third leading scorer averaging 10.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and is shooting 54.5 percent from the field.

OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
• The Bears are currently averaging 76.6 points (No. 2 in MEAC) thru 16 games.
• Morgan exploded for 118 points in its 2021-22 season opener versus St. Mary's College of Maryland and followed it up with a 126-71 win against Penn State Allegheny. The Bears beat Goucher 100-41.
• The Bears are shooting 43.2 percent from the field (ranked No. 4) and 30.8 percent from beyond the arc (No. 6).

TURNOVER MARGIN
Through games played on Tuesday, Jan. 25, Morgan ranked No. 17 in the nation in turnover margin (4.6 ratio, with 244 turnovers and 318 opponent turnovers).
• Sherwyn Devonish has registered 52 assists and 23 turnovers and currently ranks No. 58 in the nation in assist-turnover ratio.

BEAR D 
Morgan has started off the 2021-22 campaign by allowing opponents to 75.0 points per game (rank No. 7 in MEAC) and 44.4 percent shooting from the field (No. 8).
• MSU's opponents have shot at a 37.1 percent clip on average from beyond the arc ... this ranks No. 8 in the conference.
• The 19.8 turnovers per game Morgan's defense forces ranks No. 2 in the country ... MSU's 9.1 steals per game ranks No. 26 in the nation.

STREAKING
Morgan has made at least one 3-pointer played in its last 167 games ... That 3-point streak began after the Bears went 0-for-11 against North Carolina Central on Feb. 20, 2016 (Hill Field House). 
• Morgan has made at least three 3-pointers in 121 of 131 games since the start of the 2017-18 season.
• The Bears made a school single-game record 15 three-pointers (on 32 attempts) at South Carolina State on Jan. 10, 2022…Morgan won that road game, 88-81 in overtime.
