BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 23, 2022) – Morgan State University men's dropped their season home opener against the Saint Francis Red Flash on Sunday, 4-3. Mikeal Carpenter and Niles Rachal both recorded a singles point for the Bears.

Carpenter, a sophomore, earned a point for the Bears in his No. 2 singles match late in the third set to Andrew Teixeira, 6-0, 2-6, 10-2. Freshman newcomer Niles Rachal also recorded a victory in his No. 4 singles match to Marc Fuste, 6-4, 6-3.
Nihit Rawal was outlasted by Sebastian Pinos in No. 1 singles, Rhajzon Rankins fell to Fabio Varella in No. 2 singles, Sebastian Lopez lost to Daniel Vinces in No. 5 singles and Martial Kawunde fell to Matt Blose in No. 6 singles.
Doubles (2,1,3)
Morgan earned the doubles point over Saint Francis when Rawal and Carpenter defeated Pinos and Banti 6-3 in a No. 1 doubles match. Rankins and Rachel teamed up to defeat Varella and Fuste 6-2 in No. 2 doubles, before Saint Francis captured the No. 3 doubles win when Teixeira and Zachary Palko defeated Lopez and Kawunde 6-4.
"Tough way to start the season, but it's more important how we finish," said MSU coach Matthew Townes. "We did some really good things, but not enough to win against a quality team."

Morgan State returns to action when they travel to Bethlehem (Pa.) for a matchup versus the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
