Bears lose heartbreaker to Coppin State on a buzzer beater three

Junior guard De'Torrion Ware records game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds.

BALTIMORE, Md. (January 15, 2022) -- Nendah Tarke hit from behind half court at the buzzer to lift Coppin State past Morgan State, 79-76 on Saturday before an announced 1,431 at Hill Field House.
 
Isaiah Burke tied the game with a free throw with 1.5 seconds left to tie the game at 76-76, but Tarke took the in-bounds pass in traffic near the free throw line and launched the game-winner before he got to the Morgan State Bear logo at center court.
 
 
Coppin State had lost nine straight games heading into Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play and now sit atop the conference at 2-0.
 
Tarke finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Eagles (3-14, 2-0). Jesse Zarzuela and Tyree Corbett added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
 
De'Torrion Ware scored 23 points on 6 of 18 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds with four steals to lead Morgan (6-8, 1-1). Lagio Grantsaan was the only other Bear to score double-figures, adding 15 points (8-15 FT) and eight rebounds.

The Bears only hit 19 of their 31 free throw attempts for a very poor 61 percent. They shot six less free throws than Coppin, who finished the game shooting a dismal 56.8 percent from the stripe (21-37).

Morgan led 42-32 at halftime, but was outscored 47-34 in the second half.

Next Up:
Morgan will have a week off before returning to action to face the Howard Bison inside Hill Field House on Saturday, Jan. 22.
