ORANGEBURG, S.C. (April 18, 2021)-Morgan State ended the 2021 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Round-Up with a 5-2 victory over North Carolina Central on Sunday afternoon at the Orangeburg Recreational Park.

The Lady Bears salvaged the weekend with the victory, going 1-2 against the MEAC's Southern Division foes, while ending a four-game losing skid. Morgan State's scheduled game on Saturday against Florida A&M was canceled due to a positive Covid test within the Rattlers' program.

Morgan State improved to 14-12 on the year and 11-4 in the MEAC. North Carolina Central fell to 5-28, 3-6 MEAC.
The win also marked career coaching victory No. 100 at Morgan State for Lady Bear head coach
Larry Hineline.

Stephanie Rundlett pitched a complete game for the Lady Bears and improved to 6-6 on the season. Rundlett allowed two runs on three hits with no walks, while striking out a game-high seven batters.

Morgan State scored five runs on four hits and left seven runners on base. The Eagles finished the game with two runs on three hits and left two base runners.
Meikel Turner led the Lady Bears with a game-high 2 RBI, while
Jalian Young walked three times and scored twice and had a game-high two stolen bases, all game highs.

Morgan State struck first when Young scored on a throwing error by the NCCU catcher on a failed pickoff attempt in the first inning. The Lady Bears then added another run in the second when
Katariina Delph reached on a bases loaded fielder's choice which scored
Sarah Tuzinski, giving Morgan State a 2-0 lead.

NCCU got on the board in the third inning when a Morgan State throwing error allowed Tamiera Sanchez to score from second, cutting the Lady Bears' lead in half at 2-1.

Kayla Bates scored the third run of the game for Morgan State on a bunt single hit by
Maya McIntyre. The Lady Bears increased their lead to 5-1, by adding two more runs in the fifth when Turner singled up the middle to score Young and
Aliya Ewell.

The Eagles' Joirea Dumas ended the scoring with her solo homer in the sixth inning to left center for the final score. Â Â Â Â

Jaylah Barr (0-7) of NCCU was charged with the loss. Barr was charged with all five Morgan runs on two hits, six walks and threw four strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched. Kiara Hurley added three strikeouts in 1.2 innings of relief. Â Â Â

Morgan State returns to action on Wednesday, April 21, when they welcome Mount St. Mary's to Lois T. Murray Field for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
