Men's Basketball Starts 3-Game West Coast Swing

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 17, 2021) – The Morgan men's basketball team (2-1) gets ready for a west coast swing over the next week, playing three consecutive road games, starting Thursday night against Seattle. Road games follow at Portland on Saturday and at San Francisco on Monday, Nov. 11.

Morgan' s contest at WAC member Seattle will be the first meeting between the teams and will tip-off at Redhawk Center in Seattle, Washington. 

sfuThe Bears begin a busy, eight-game November against Seattle (2-1), which is coming off a 77-51 victory against Idaho State playing in the inaugural basketball game at Climate Pledge Arena. It marked the culminating event of the university's Homecoming. Junior guard Riley Grigsby (San Jose, Calif.) , who poured in a career-high 30 points in 30 minutes versus Idaho State, leads Seattle in scoring (17.7) and is shooting 46.3 percent from the floor. Redshirt sophomore Cameron Tyson (Bothell, Wash.), who had 18 points (5-9 FG) in the Nov. 14 victory over Idaho State, is the Redhawks' second leading scorer (12.7) and second leading rebounder (4.7).

Sophomore Darrion Trammell (Marin City, Calif.) is Seattle's other double-figure scorer (11.7) and the leader in assists (6.0). The other starting spots are manned by freshman Viktor Rajkovic (Mill Valley, Calif.), who averages 8.2 ppg and 5.8 rpg, Nate Robinson (Walnut Creek, Calif.), who averages 7.0 ppg and .444 3FG, and either redshirt freshman Brandton Chatfield (Orofino, Idaho), who averages 3.7 ppg and 2.0 rpg.

pilotsPortland features a balanced attack with four double-figure scorers, led by Chris Austin (18.0; Pasadena, Calif).  6-foot-8 forward Moses Wood (Reno, Nev.) is averaging 14 points and leads the Pilots on the glass with 7.3 rebounds per game. Wood is also shooting 44.8 percent from the field and has connected on 8 of 19 3-pointers. Mike Meadows (Hollywood, Calif.) has added 11.7 point and 6.7 rebounds. 6-foot-9 forward Tyler Robertson (Melbourne, Australia) scored 19 points with five boards in his first game of the season when the Portland played Alcorn State (Nov. 13). The Pilots, who are 2-0 inside the Chiles Center so far this season, have averaged 81.3 points per game and have shot 46 percent from the field. Portland will host Arkansas Pine Bluff on Thursday (Nov. 18) before facing Morgan on Saturday.
 

UsfSan Francisco has a 1-0 all-time record against Morgan, having defeated the Bears 87-74 on January 3, 2012 at War Memorial Gym. Jamaree Bouyea (Seaside, Calif.) is one of four players averaging double-figures for the Dons (4-0). Bouyee (6-2, 170) is averaging 17.8 points and 4.8 rebounds thru four games. Redshirt senior guard Khalil Shabazz (Seattle, Wash.) is contributing 13.5 points and 3.8 rebounds, Yauhen Massalski (Minsk, Belarus) is adding 11 points and 5.5 rebounds. Gabe Stefanini (Bologna, Italy) is chipping in 10 points. USF will host Nevada at The Sobrato Center on Thursday followed by Morgan on Monday (Nov. 22).
