BALTIMORE, Md. (March 11, 2020)-The Lady Bears tennis team won their second straight match, as they defeated rival Loyola Maryland by a score of 6-1 in a non-conference match on Wednesday afternoon.
Morgan State (4-7) swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles action. The Lady Bears then claimed five of the six singles matches for the victory.
Asmara Rose and
Averiana Mitchell earned a hard fought 7-6 win at No. 1 doubles over the Greyhounds' Kateri Martin and Abigail Thornton.
Jourdan Wallace and
Ana-Lei Kalawe defeated Lin Robertson and Alexandria Agee of Loyola Maryland 6-3 at No. 2 and
Anabel Torrente and
Stefania Moysiadi teamed up to defeat Abby Decker and Sandra Aguirre in a No. 3 doubles match 6-4.
Rose bounced back from dropping the first set of her No. 1 singles contest against Martin to win in three sets 0-6, 6-3, 6-3. Mitchell defeated Decker in straight sets at No. 3 by a score of 6-3, 6-4 and Moysiadi also earned a straight sets win over Aguirre 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 5 spot.
The Lady Bears rounded out the scoring with Torrente and Kalawe each winning in three sets. Torrente defeated Robertson of Loyola 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 in a No. 4 singles match, while Kalawe held off Agee 7-5, 2-6, 10-7 in her No. 6 match.
Morgan State will travel to Wilmington, N.C. to take on UNC Wilmington on Sunday, March 15 at noon.
