WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 1, 2020)-
Chelsea Mitchell scored a game-high 26 points and added a game-high 14 rebounds to lead visiting Morgan State to a 68-52 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory at Howard on Saturday afternoon at Burr Gymnasium.

It was the 10
th double-double this season for Mitchell, who also finished with a career-high eight steals, falling two shy of recording her first collegiate triple-double. Her 26 points set a new Morgan State high, breaking her previous high of 25 points this season at Delaware State (1/4). Mitchell scored a career-high 28 points during her junior season at Lander (2017-18).
Ashia McCalla finished with 16 points and
Dahnye Redd picked up her fourth double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, as the Lady Bears, who sit in third-place in the MEAC standings, extended their winning streak to a season-long five straight.

In what has become all too common the past three games, Morgan State once again fell behind by double digits and then turned up its play in the second half to overcome.

Morgan State (11-11, 7-2 MEAC) fell behind by as much as 12 points (33-21) when Howard's Curstyn Moore hit a jumper with 4:10 left in the second period. Mitchell hit a jumper with 1:44 remaining to cut the Bison deficit to 34-27 at the break.

Howard (12-9, 4-4 MEAC) and Morgan State each entered the contest outscoring their opponents in the third quarter. The Bison had outscored opponents by 36 points (379-343), while Morgan State had outscored the opposition by 54 points (356-302) in the third quarter.

Saturday the third quarter would belong to the Lady Bears, as they outscored the Bison, 14-3 in the period, limiting the hosts to just one field goal and a free throw.

Howard's Ayonna Williams hit a free throw 50 seconds into the third period to put the Bison in front 35-27. Morgan State would score the next 12 points capped off by back-to-back three-pointers from
Ja'Niah Henson to take a 39-35 lead with 3:49 left in the quarter. Moore ended the Lady Bears' run, scoring on a jumper in the lane with 58 seconds remaining for Howard's lone field goal of the period.

The Bison pulled within 43-42 on a free throw by Gia Thorpe with 7:46 left in the game. But Morgan State countered with 13-0 straight points in the midst of a 17-2 spurt to take its largest lead of the game at 60-44 with 3:05 to play.

Morgan State will be off until next Saturday, Feb. 8, when it returns home to welcome Maryland Eastern Shore at 2 p.m. at Hill Field House. At the time of tip-off the two teams would have met 12 days prior in Princess Anne, Md. with the Lady Bears defeating the Hawks, 55-44 (1/27).
