Morgan State Goes 3-1 In Dual-Matches Against Norfolk State

BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 19, 2020) -- With the Scott-Underwood Tournament cancelled for this weekend, on Saturday the Morgan State bowling team hosted a dual match against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference rival, Norfolk State at Bowl America in Glen Burnie, Md.
 
Four separate matches were played: two Traditional Game Matches and Two five-game Baker Matches. The Lady Bears won the day with a 3-1 record and recorded some noteworthy individual performances.
 
Ashanti Fernandes had a Baker Frame average of 23.73 for the two complete Baker Matches bowled. After Match #1, her frame average was 22.6 and then in Match #2 she threw five pocket strikes in a row en route to her fine performance.
 
Touri Holmes led the Bears in scoring in Traditional Match #1 with a 213 game. Amoura Whitney came to the Morgan State program in the Fall of 2019 as a first time bowler. Her hard work paid off on Saturday, averaging 177.0 with games of a 180 and 164.
 
The Lady Bears welcomed their newest member, La'Monique Berrios from Frederiksted, Saint Croix, Virgin Islands to her first NCAA competition.
 
Coach Falbo commented, "the lane conditions played longer throughout the day. So instead of opening angles and being aggressive, we were getting into stronger shells and staying patient. I liked the way we finished in Match #1. In Match #2, when the lanes gave both teams fits, our ladies committed to their lines in the 10th frame and did well to seal the win.
 
"In Baker where we pride ourselves in closing frames, we gave away too many pins in not converting our makeable spares. To the ladies' credit, we have averaged higher each time out, but we'll work on key elements this week and set a foundation to continue that trend."
 
Next up for the Lady Bears is a trip north for the Red Flash Invitational on January 24-26th at Holiday Bowl in Altoona, Pa.
