Lady Bears Sweep Coppin In Season Finale; Finish Unbeaten In MEAC Play

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 15, 2019)-The Morgan State women's tennis team concluded their regular season this afternoon by sweeping rival Coppin State, 4-0 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match at the Coppin State Tennis Courts.

With the win against Coppin, the Lady Bears finished undefeated in MEAC play. It's the first time that Morgan State has gone undefeated in MEAC play since 2013, when that squad also finished 5-0, while capturing the northern division crown that season.

The Lady Bears (7-12, 5-0 MEAC) got off a quick start, taking the doubles point. Coppin would lose at No. 3 by default. The pair composed of senior Oriane Yehouenou and junior Dana Santiago would win 6-1 at No. 2 doubles and give the lead to the Lady Bears.

In singles play, Morgan State would not give any chances to the Eagle. Jourdan Wallace would earn a win by default at No. 6 and the seniors would close out and give the win to the Lady Bears. Yehouenou would win 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot and fellow senior Peggy Rooke would clinch the win for the Lady Bears with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles.

"It's really good to end the year with a win. Going undefeated in conference was really important to us this year and I'm glad we were able to accomplish that," said Morgan State head coach, Matthew Townes. "It wasn't senior day, but our seniors stepped up in a big way in their last match and helped secure the win."

The 4-0 win for Morgan State concludes the regular season for women's tennis. Morgan State finished the season winning four of its last five matches. The Lady Bears who are under a post-season ban, will not be participating in the 2019 MEAC championship.
