Lady Bears Take Series From Howard With Finale Win, 8-4

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 14, 2019)-The Lady Bears overcame a 4-2 deficit, by scoring six unanswered runs, including four in the seventh inning to defeat host Howard, 8-4 in the finale of their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division series on Sunday afternoon at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy.

With the win, the Lady Bears won the series, taking two of three games to win their fourth consecutive series over Howard.

Morgan State (15-22, 6-3 MEAC), winners of seven of its last eight games, was led by Sarah Heagy, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and a RBI. Damali Young also went 3-for-4 with two runs. Haylee Bobos drove in a game-high 3 RBI after her 2-for-4 performance at the plate with a run scored. Giselle Alvarez also finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate with a run and RBI.

Stephanie Rundlett improved to 10-15 on the season with the win. She pitched a complete game, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk, while throwing two strikeouts.

Morgan State scored a run in the first inning, but Howard reclaimed the lead with a two-run homer by Breanna Robinson in the bottom of the third.

Howard (14-22, 4-3 MEAC) broke a 2-2 score in fifth inning when Kalita Dennis doubled to left center to score two runs and give the host Lady Bison a 4-2 advantage.

Bobos quickly changed things in the next inning when she homered to left field to score Heagy and tie the score at 4-4.

The Lady Bears' offense stayed hot in the seventh inning, adding four more runs for the 8-4 victory. Young scored the first run of the innings on a double to right center by Alvarez, who later scored on Heagy's single to left field to make it a 6-4 game. After Damishah Charles scored on a passed ball, Bobos singled to left field to drive in Heagy for the final run.

Next up for Morgan State will be a trip to Princess Anne, Md. to take on the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks in a MEAC series (April 19-20). The two will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1 p.m., before closing out the series with a single game on Saturday at noon.
