Lady Bears Defeat Rival Coppin State In Season Finale, 70-47

BALTIMORE, Md. (March 7, 2019)-The Morgan State Lady Bears completed a dominating performance Thursday against crosstown rival Coppin State in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) regular season and 'Senior Night' finale, defeating the Lady Eagles, 70-47 at Hill Field House.

Five players scored in double-digits for the Lady Bears. Ashia McCalla came off the bench to score a game-high 15 points and Adre'onia Coleman also added 15 points in her final home game to lead the way for Morgan State. Naomi Bolasingh shot 4-of-6 from three-point range to finish with 14 points in her final game in front of the home crowd. Dezyree Morales shot 5-of-7 from the floor to score a season-best 10 points and had a team-high two blocks, while Jihayah Chavis also scored 10 points and pulled down six rebounds, while dishing out a game-high seven assists.

The Lady Bears' victory over Coppin State gives them a 10-20 overall mark and an 8-8 MEAC record for the season.

"For this team to finish .500 with six or seven players is pretty good. I have to take it how I can get it," said Lady Bears' head coach Ed Davis.

Jalynda Salley led the way for the Lady Eagles with 14. Brooke Fields had 13 and Kaiya Coleman added 11.

Coppin State (4-24, 4-12 MEAC), had its season-long two-game winning streak snapped by the Lady Bears, as Morgan swept the regular season series. The Lady Bears won convincingly over the Lady Eagles in the first matchup this season, 74-57 on Jan. 2 at Coppin State.

The Lady Bears have now won four straight over Coppin State, which still leads the all-time series, 41-38.

Morgan State said goodbye to its three seniors Kayla Horn, Coleman and Bolasingh. Each player came into Morgan as transfers and spent two years under Coach Davis. This victory against their crosstown rival in their final season will leave a lasting memory.

"To my teammates, I love them to death. This win and this season wouldn't have been possible without them. To Morgan and my coaches, I just want to thank them for the opportunity to play and show out for this school," said Bolasingh.

The Lady Bears will head into next week's MEAC Tournament in Norfolk, Va. as the 6th-seed and with some momentum.

"We're up for the challenge," said Coach Davis. "If we can take the momentum from the last two games into the tournament, I'm fine because it'll be a good effort. The last two games have been great effort games, so I'm hoping we can take that into the tournament."
