HARRISONBURG, Va. (March 18, 2019)-No. 22 James Madison Dukes scored seven runs in the first inning and added six more in the third, en route to a 15-1 non-conference victory in five innings over visiting Morgan State in the finale of the JMU Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.
The loss would be the fourth straight for the Lady Bears, who fell to 6-15 on the season, while host JMU improved to 15-5 and won its seventh consecutive game and fifth straight eight-run rule victory.
The Dukes tallied 15 runs on 13 hits in the contest. Four JMU players would record multiple hits. Kate Gordon led the way going 2-for-2 at the plate with a game-high 4 RBI and two runs scored. Hannah File also went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a RBI. Odicci Alexander went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and Logan Newton also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI.
Morgan State would be limited to two hits with Giselle Alvarez going 1-for-2 with the Lady Bears' lone run in the fourth inning and Damishah Charles also going 1-for-2 at the plate.
The Lady Bears will be welcome the Norfolk State Spartans to Lois T. Murray Field for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference series opener on Saturday, March 23-Sunday, March 24. Morgan State and the Spartans will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m., before closing out the series with a single game at noon on Sunday.
