Deas Leads La Salle Past Bears, 85-68

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (December 14, 2019) – Isaiah Deas scored 17 before halftime to give the Explorers a lead, then finished with a season high 31 points and made 6 of 11 3-pointers to help La Salle beat the Bears 85-68 on Saturday afternoon at Tom Gola Arena.

The teams battled throughout most of the first half until Deas took over.

The senior from Brooklyn (N.Y.) went on a 17-0 run by himself over a 5 minute stretch. The Explorers held a 33-21 lead after Deas buried his fifth three of the half. 
 
La Salle (6-3) outscored the Bears 25-6 to end the first half with a 41-27 advantage at the intermission.
 
Morgan State (4-8) used an 8-2 run to trim the Explorers lead after halftime. A putback basket by sophomore guard Isaiah Burke cut the lead to 50-41 with 16:01 remaining, and eventually down to a six point lead following a layup by senior guard Stanley Davis to make it 53-47.
 
The Bears trailed 68-61 following a 3-point play and a pair of free throws by sophomore guard Sherwyn Devonish-Prince with just over 6 minutes remaining in the contest. 
 
Deas helped stem the tide with a for a turnaround jumper over Devonish as part of a 7-0 spurt to give the Explorers a 75-61 lead with 2:56 remaining.
 
Morgan State junior forward Troy Baxter scored the first seven points of the game for the Bears and finished the day with 15 points (6-7 FG) and five rebounds.
 
Davis scored 14 points and Burke had 12 points and led the Bears on the glass with six rebounds.
 
La Salle only had three turnovers in the first half and finished the game with seven, despite the Bears full court defense pressure. Meanwhile, the Explorers scored 28 points off of 16 turnovers by the Bears.
 
Morgan State held a 36-31 advantage on the glass and outscored the Explorers by a commanding 40-24 margin inside the paint.
